The Olton Mustangs’ varsity football team is coming off of a huge, 42-21, win over the Farwell Steers to close out the regular season this past Friday.
With the win, the Mustangs enter the play-offs with a mark of 7-3, as they get set to take on New Deal Thursday afternoon in Levelland in the Class 2A Bi-district round of the play-offs.
“We may have had our best game of the season against Farwell,” Head Coach Ross Lassiter said. “We were able to effectively run the ball and effectively mix in the pass on offense. It was a good win to get heading into the playoffs.”
Coach Lassiter talked about the challenges New Deal will present, saying, “New Deal has a really stingy defense. They put a lot ofbig bodies in the box and make it difficult to run. Offensively they run the ball really well behind a big offensive line. They also have good speed on the outside and can hit you deep in the passing game.”
He added, “We will have to establish a run game to have success against New Deal. We will need to mix in some pass and be efficient on third down. Defensively, we will need to be good on third down and find a way to slow down their running game.”
Kick-off is slated for 4 p.m. at Lobo Stadium in Levelland.
