Mustangs take down Lockney in opener, 60-41

The Olton Mustangs’ varsity basketball team took down Lockney in their season-opener on Saturday, 60-41, to improve to 1-0 overall on the season.

Brennon Huguley and Chris Urbina got the Mustangs off and running in the first frame, combing for 16 of Olton’s 20 points in the first quarter to take a, 20-12, lead into the second quartet

Lockneyralliedbackto tie the game, 24-24, heading into the locker room at halftime, but in the third quarter Urbina led the charge for Olton with 12 points to help propel the Mustangs to a, 41-32, lead heading into the final quarter ofplay.

In the final frame, Olton got buckets from seven different players to take the contest, 60-41.

Urbina led the team in scoring with 24 points and he was joined in doublefigures scoring by Huguley, who finished with 16 points. Alex and Israel Santillan each finished with five points, while Jake Soliz, Ty Struve, Aldo Vasquez, Bryson Ramage and Andrew Martinez each finished with two points.

The Mustangs hosted Hale Center on Tuesday evening. Results were not available at pi ess time. They will continue their season on Friday when they travel to New Home to take on the Leopards.

Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m.
