LADY CATS RUN-RULE DIMMITT, 12-1

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity softball team run-ruled the Dimmitt Bobbies on Friday, 12-1, in their first meetin of district play.

With the win, the Lady Cats improve to 2-2 in district play.

Both teams went three-up-and-three-down in the first inning, and in the top of the second inning, sophomore pitcher, Cadence Sanchez, got the lead-off batter, JC Sepeda, to pop up to Geyah Garza behind third base for out number one.

Maraya Corrales singled over shortstop to give the Bobbies a runner, but Sanchez got Mariah Marmolejo to fly out to Mykenzie Price in left field and Ashley Macias to strikeout swinging to retire the side.

Brookelyn Gau drew a lead-off walk in the bottom half of the side and took second on a pitch to Madison McNeese, before McNeese hit a two-run inside the park homerun to center field on a ball that was missed by Ariana Perez, making the score, 2-0. Malorie Garcia drew a walk and took second on a pitch to Kaeleigh Logan, before Logan was called out looking on a check swing for out number one.

Garcia scored on a past ball to make the score, 3-0, and Torres singled on a throwing error by Sepeda to put a runner on first for Littlefield with one out. Torres took second on a past ball and Katelyn Gau hit a sacrifice grounder to Jazlyn Rodriguez at second, who threw to first for the out, as Torres was able to score from second to extend their lead to, 4-0.

Price was hit by a pitch and took second on a pitch to Garza and third on a past ball, before Garza too walked to put runners on the corners for Littlefield. Price scored on a past ball and Garza went first to third on the play, before scoring on a bad throw back to the pitcher to extend the lead to, 6-0.

Sanchez hit a shot back at Sepeda in the circle, who got the out at first to end the inning.

Perez laid down a slash bunt that was fielded by Garcia at third, but the throw to first was off of the glove of Katelyn Gau, giving the Bobbies a runner. Perez took second on a pitch, before Ashleigh Broom followed up the hit with an RBI-double to shallow right field, trimming the lead to, 6-1. Sanchez would get the next three batters to go down in order to retire the side.

Brookelyn Gau singled under the glove of Macias at second base, but McNeese hit into a fielder’s choice to Macias at second base, who got the force out at second for out number one. McNeese took second on a pitch and third on a past ball, before Garcia hit an RBI-single to shortstop. She took second on a throwing error by Rodriguez, as they pushed their lead to, 7-1.

Logan hit a sacrifice grounder to Sepeda in the circle and was thrown out at first, as Garcia advanced to third on the play. Torres drew a walk and took second on a pitch, before Katelyn Gau hit a two-RBI single over second base, stretching the lead to, 9-1.

Price, though, would pop up to third to end the inning.

Sepeda laid down a drag bunt to open the fourth inning, but Sanchez would get the next three Bobbie batters to go down in order to retire the side.

Garza grounded out to Broom at third to begin the bottom of the fourth inning and Sanchez hit a one-hopper to Macias at second, who flipped it to first for out number two. Brookelyn Gau ripped a triple to right-center field, but Hannah Ballejo grounded out to Macias at second base to end the inning.

Sanchez got Perez to strike out swinging in the top of the fifth inning and Broom to pop up to Katelyn Gau in foul territory at first base for out number two. Rodriguez singled on an error by Garza at shortstop, but Caitlyn Olmos lined out to Brookelyn Gau behind first base to retire the side.

In the bottom half of the side, Garcia grounded out to first and Logan struck out looking, before Tricia Torres hit a grounder to Sepeda in the circle, who made a bad throw to first, allowing Torres to take second on the play. Katelyn Gau hit an RBI single through the right side to make the score, 10-1, as Zoe Garcia came on to pinch run.

Price hit a shot down the third-base line that moved Zoe Garcia over to third and Garza followed it up with a two-RBI double to center field, as the Lady Cats walked off with a, 12-1, victory over the Bobbies at Lady Cat Field.

Sanchez pitched a complete game for the Lady Cats, earning seven strikeouts, while giving up just one run.

The Lady Cats traveled to Muleshoe to take on the Lady Mules to close out the first half of district play on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Saturday with a home game against Lamesa.

First pitch is scheduled for noon.
