The Littlefield Lady Cats high school softball team fell to the Slaton Tigerettes, 6-5, in their winners bracket game on Thursday afternoon, dropping them into the loser’s bracket in their End of Season Tournament.
With the loss, the Lady Cats fell to 1-1 in tournament play.
The Lady Cats went three-up-and-three down in the top of the first inning and in the bottom half of the side, Natalia Sanchez got Lexi to strike out looking for out number one. Savy was thrown out at first for out number two and Kayla hit a one-hopper to Natalia Sanchez in the circle to retire the side.
Alex Hernandez led off the top of the second inning with a walk, but Kaeleigh Logan popped up to shortstop for out number one. Vivika Ballejo doubled through the left side to put two runners on base for Littlefield, but Gabby popped up to KK in the circle and Bri Castillo struck out looking to end the inning.
In the home half of the second inning, Kam popped up to Logan at first base for out number one. Jac singled off of the glove of Briann Mckinnerney and S2 hit an RBI-triple to right field to make the score, 1-0. S16 followed it up with an RBI-single over shortstop to extend their lead to, 2-0. KK blasted a two-run inside of the park homerun to extend the lead to, 4- 0.
Lexi was struck out for out number two and Savy grounded out to Natalia Sanchez in the circle to end the inning.
The Lady Cats had nothing going offensively in the top of the third inning, as Logan was thrown out at first on a dropped third strike, Julie Rodriguez grounded out to second and Cadence Sanchez popped up to shortstop to retire the side.
Kayla led off the bottom of the third inning with a single through the right side and she took second on a bad throw to first from the catcher, before Kolby hit a grounder to Cadence Sanchez at shortstop; she beat the throw to first and took second on errors as a run scored to make the score, 5- 0.
Kam hit a shot back at the circle and a run scored on the throw to first for out number as the lead was stretched to, 6-0. Adriana grounded out to Ballejo at first base for out number two, but the next batter followed it up with a triple. However, the following batter lined out to Natalia Sanchez in the circle to end the inning.
In the top of the fourth inning, Natalia Sanchez and Hernandez drew back-to-back walks to lead things off. Logan hit an RBI-sacrifice grounder to second base and was thrown out at first, as Natalia Sanchez scored and Hernandez advanced to third as the lead was cut to, 6-1. Hernandez scored on a past ball to trim the lead to, 6-2, but Kam drew a walk and was thrown out trying to take second for out number two.
Gabby singled to right field and Bri Castillo drew a walk, but Logan hit a shot back at the pitcher and was thrown out at first to retire the side.
KK singled on an error by Natalia Sanchez in the circle, but she recovered, as she got Lexi to strike out swinging for out number one. KK too second on a past ball, before Savy grounded out to Logan at first, as the runner advanced to third with two outs. KK was picked off at third to end the inning.
Rodriguez walked all the way to second to open the fifth inning. She took third on a past ball, before Cadence Sanchez knocked an RBI single to shortstop, trimming the lead to, 6-3. Natalia Sanchez drew a walk and advanced to third on a throwing error to second, cutting the lead to, 6-4. KK entered the circle for Slaton, as Natalia scored on a past ball to make it a one-run game, 6-5. She gave up a walk to Hernandez, but Logan grounded into a 6-4-3 double play and Ballejo flew out to Adriana in left field, as the Lady Cats fell short in their comeback against Slaton, 6-5, dropping Littlefield into the loser’s Bracket.
