Lady Cats come up short against Snyder

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team came up short in their Denver City Tournamentopener against Snyder, 0-2.

With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 3-7 overall, 0-1 in tournament play on the weekend.

In set one, Nevaeh Lopez delivered a kill off of the set from Bryndle Ray and Sydnee Gomez was called for being on the net for Snyder during the next play, making the score, 2-0. Ray sent a serve sailing out of bounds and a diving save attempt by Faith Balderas fell short of the net, tying the set, 2-2.

Ray tipped a ball short of the net, off of a dig by Balderas, but Snyder’s Mia Villa was called for an illegal attack to tie the set, 3-3. Ryleigh Matus delivered a kill on the sideline for Snyder to regain the serve and Madison Williams was blocked by Jessica Crawford and Lexie Beynon for a kill, pushing the Lady Tigers lead to, 3-5.

Snyder kept it going, as Lopez was blocked by Crawford and the cover hit was hit out of bounds by Tailyn Gomez, making the score, 3-6. Ray set Williams up for a tip that fell in for a kill and Crawford followed it up with a hit into the net for Snyder to cut the lead to one point, 5-6, but Williams had a tip land out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 5-7.

Maggie McNeese sent a hit out of bounds and Crawford served up an ace in front of Gomez, before Villa sent a hit into the net for Snyder, giving the serve back to the Lady Cats with the score, 6-9. London Taylor sent a kill sailing out of bounds and Williams sent a hit into the net, before Chloe Henson delivered a kill off of Gomez, stretching their lead to, 612.

Hailey Tarin delivered a kill on the sideline, before Lea Aviles sent a kill attempt sailing out of bounds to make the score, 7-13. A hit by Williams was tipped out of bounds by Snyder and Henson sent a kill attempt out of bounds, cutting the lead to, 9-13. Cobi Saldana had a hit blocked by Beynon, but the ball landed out of bounds for a Littlefield point. Snyder would end the Littlefield rally with a kill off of Saldana, and Saldana was called for a double-hit on the next play, making the score, 10-15.

Aviles served up an ace, but Henson was called for being on the net, during the next play, making the score, 11-16. Lopez sent back-to-back kill attempt’s off of the mark, as Littlefield took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Saldana sent a hit out of bounds, but Snyder’s rally ended when a dig by Balderas was hit into the net by Crawford, making the score, 12-19.

Crawford delivered a kill off of Ray, but Matus had a kill try land out of bounds on the sideline to make the score, 13-20. Lopez sent a hit into the net, but Crawford was called for a double-hit on the next play to make the score, 14-21. Lopez tipped the net with a serve for an ace, but Snyder answered, as Crawford delivered a kill off of Gomez to push their lead to, 15-22.

Sophia Montoya served up an ace off of Williams, but Henson sent a hit into the net for the Lady Tigers and Villa was called for a carry to cut the lead to, 17-23. Kami Silveira served up an ace in front of Aviles, but a hit by Taylor didn’t make it over the net forcing a fourhits call on Littlefield. Taylor would sent a hit short of the net, as Snyder took set one, 18-25.

In set two, Autumn Perez sent a hit out of bounds on the sideline off of the serve from Ray, but Gomez answered with a hit that went out of bounds off of Balderas, making the score, 1-1. Crawford delivered a kill off of Ray and Matus served up an ace off of Balderas to stretch the Snyder lead to, 1-3.

Matus would send a serve short of the enet to end the rally and Crawford sent a hit out of bounds on the side line to tie the set, 3-3. Perez dropped in a hit for a kill for Snyder and Balderas had a hit land out of bounds, pushing the Lady Tigers lead back out to, 3-5. Aviles sent a hit into the net for Snyder and Crawford sent a hit out of bounds on the sideline, but they would recover, as Crawford delivered a kill off of Gomez to make the score, 5-6.

McNeese delivered a kill out of bounds and Taylor sent a tip into the net, as Littlefield’s struggles continued, trailing, 5-8. A hit from McNeese didn’t make it over the net, forcing a four-hits call on Littlefield, but Snyder’s rally ended, as a hit from Beynon didn’t make it over the net, trimming the lead to, 6-9.

The Lady Cats would try and scratch their way back into the set, as Silveira served up an ace off of Matus and Crawford and Beynon sent back-to-back hits sailing out of bounds, tying the set, 9-9. Williams delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Crawford, but the lead was short-lived, as Crawford delivered a kill off of Gomez to tie the set, 10-10.

Crawford sent a serve short of the net and Aviles followed it up with a hit into the net on the next play, but Littlefield couldn’t capitalize, as a dig by Silveira landed out of bounds, making the score, 12-11. Henson and Aviles sent back-to-back hits into the net for Snyder and Saldana followed it up with a kill off of Aviles to push their lead to, 15-11.

Balderas had a serve fall short of the net and Lopez followed it up with a hit into the net on the next play to make it a two-point game, 15-13. Aviles sent a serve out of bounds on the sideline and Henson was blocked by Lopez for a kill on the next play, extending the lead back out to, 17-13, as Snyder took a time out to talk things over.

Out of the break, Saldana delivered a kill off of Aviles, before sending a hit into the net on the next play, making the score, 18-14. Snyder would go on a run, tying the set, 23-23, after Bussey was called for a carry. Crawford served up an ace between Balderas and Gomez and a dig on the next play by Gomez went into the net, and the save by Silveira fell short, as Snyder took the set, 23-25, and the match, 0-2.
