HORNETS FALL TO SMYER ON THE ROAD, 56-19

The Sudan Hornets’ varsity football team fell on the road on Friday to the Smyer bobcats, 56-19. With the loss, the Hornets fall to 1-2 in district play.

The Hornets totaled 332 yards of offense, including 192 passing yards and 140 rushing yards.

In the first quarter, senior quarterback, Bode Box, got the Hornets going, when he connected with senior, Lane Wilson for a 57-yard touchdown pass. The PAT by Abram Rodriguez was good, making the score, 7-0.

Smyer, though, would answer, as Ethan Ramirez scored on a fiveyard touchdown run. The twopoint conversion by the Bobcats was no good, leaving the Hornets out in front, 7-6.

Smyer would find the endzone again before the end of the first quarter, as Ramirez hit Ethaniel Villegas for a 33-yard touchdown to make the score, 12-7, after the failed two-point conversion.

In the second quarter, William Rauch scored on a 12-yard run for the Bobcats and Ramirez hit Kagen Haywood on the two-point conversion, making the score, 20-7, going into the locker room at halftime.

Sudan found a spark of offense to open the second half, as senior, Garison Bohler, hit Box for a 26-yard touchdown pass. The twopoint conversion was no good, as the Hornets trimmed the lead to, 20-13. Smyer would answer, as Rauch scored on a five-yard run, followed by the two-point conversion run by Ramirez, stretching their lead back out to, 28-13.

Later in the quarter, Box would connected with senior tight end, Beto Diaz, for a 65-yard touchthe lead 28-19.

Smyer would close out the game with 28 unanswered points to take down the Hornets, 56-19.

Box finished the game six-of-14 passing for 166 yards, two touchdown and two interceptions, while Bohler was one-of-two passing for 26 yards and one touchdown.

Senior, Rustin Penrod, finished with 10 carries for 52 yards, while senior, Callen Cannon, tallied seven carries for 34 yards and Wilson added six carries for 27 yards. Box also had nine carries for 26 yards.

In the receiving game, Diaz had one catch for 65 yards and one touchdown, while Wilson chipped in two catches for 65 yards and one touchdown and Box added one catch for 26 yards and one touchdown. Bohler also had three catches for 36 yards.

Defensively, Wilson finished with five solo tackles and 12 assists, while Josue Cervera added two solo tackles and seven assists.
