In Loving Memory Of Roy Michael 'Mike' Fisher
April 13, 1947 ~ Aug. 4, 2025
Graveside service for Roy Michael "Mike" Fisher, age 78, of Sudan, Texas, was held Friday, afternoon, August 8, 2025 at the Sudan Cemetery Chapel with Caleb Swofford of Sudan officiating. Mike was born in Amherst, Texas on April 13, 1947. He died August 4, 2025. Mike attended Sudan High School and later the University of Texas at Austin graduating with a degree in 1965. Mike married Patsy Sue Jackson on August 1, 1970, in Petersburg, Texas. Mike and Patsy had a short courtship because they were so in love and could not wait to be married.
This past Friday, Mike and Patsy celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Mike and Patsy were able to travel to Ruidoso, New Mexico, to celebrate this wonderful milestone. Sadly, this is where Mike became sick. Patsy and Mike spent 55 wonderful years together. They met in Petersburg while both were teaching at the same school. Their daughter, Tanya, was born on November 22, 1972. On September 5, 1973, a beautiful baby boy was born and a few years later, they chose Shannon to be their son. Soon after this, Mike was diagnosed with cancer, but conquered this and became a 49 year survivor.
Mike and Patsy lived and worked in Ralls, Texas, raising their children, but later moved to Sudan, Texas, in the summer of 1978. In May 2025, they moved to Amarillo to live with their daughter, sonin-law, and one of their granddaughters. Mike had become very happy with this change and was enjoying his new city that always provided him his favorite Diet Coke with cream at Sonic!
They had 47 wonderful years in Sudan. Mike taught math for many years and shaped the lives of countless young people. There was not an algebraic formula that Mike could not solve. He helped many students throughout the years in math as well as hours spent on the phone and in person with his grandchildren and nieces working on these math problems.
Mike also had the most beautiful singing voice. For many years, he served churches as their music director filling the room with his dynamic tenor voice. He often shared his talent with others, including heartfelt tributes-like when he sang to his wife and to his daughter and son-in-law on their wedding days. It was Mike's joy to sing with Tanya as well as his siblings and the quartet at the church.
Saying that he "bled burnt orange", Mike was an avid supporter of his Longhorns. Patsy would often say that they were a house divided as she loves her Red Raiders. If he said Hook'em, she said Wreck'em! He also dearly loved his Hornet and Nette events: football, basketball, band, etc. following many successful years.
Mike dearly loved his family especially his grandchildren and nieces and nephew. He had this magical way of calming down a crying baby with his soothing, calming voice and that big comfy shoulder. He also built many a blanket fort in the sunroom for his children and grandchildren.
Mike is survived by his wife, Patsy; his daughter, Tanya (Barry) Williams; and son, Shannon (Karen) Fisher. He leaves behind five beloved grandchildren and one great-grandchild: Tyce Fisher, Bayleigh Fisher, Makenzie Gillispie (Tristen, of Dallas), Sydney Williams, Kambrie Fisher, and Layton Fisher. He is also survived by his siblings, Radney Fisher of San Antonio, Kathey Granger of Brownfield, and Missy (Joe Ky) Shultz of Sudan. He also leaves behind his beloved nephew and nieces: Brett Granger (Aly), Kylee Swofford (Caleb), Ashton Grace (Breauxmon), Gracyn Shultz, Brynlee Granger, Adalynn Grace, and Scotlynn Swofford.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Lee Roy and Josephine Fisher.
