Joe Embry, 83, of Littlefield went to be with his Lord on April 26, 2022. He was born March 16, 1939, in Brady, Texas to Nollie B Embry and Cecile Cooke Embry. He was the oldest of three children.

Joe attended Melvin, Texas schools at a young age where his father ran a cotton gin and farmed. The family then moved to West Texas where his father bought a cotton gin at Oklahoma Flat, Texas. He went to school in Whitharral until the family moved to Littlefield. In 1952, the family moved again to the 6 Mile Gin north of Littlefield. At that time, Joe went to high school at Amherst, graduating in 1957.

Upon graduation, he attended West Texas State in Canyon, Texas and entered the ROTC military program. He graduated with a Business Degree and a Second Lieutenant ranking in the Army. He was stationed at Ft. Lee Virginia in Petersburg, Virginia, and later at Ft. Holabird in Baltimore, Maryland. He served in the Quartermaster Corp as supervisor of the Post Exchange and Commissary from 1962-1964, leaving as a First Lieutenant and in Reserves as a Captain.

Joe married La Pearl Jones in 1959. They had 62 wonderful years full of happy days, whether it be farming, running a gin, helping grandchildren at stock shows, raising beloved show goats for 10 years, or traveling across the United States visiting state parks.

Joe’s high school class of 1957 have continued to stay close and meet as a group every two years in various locations across the country. They have traveled to many places and had a great time as an extended family.

Joe was a man of God who was strong in his faith. He was a member of the Methodist Church all his life. He and La Pearl were youth sponsors at the Littlefield Methodist for several years. He served on all the boards within the church through the years and was a willing worker on many projects at the church.

He was a member of the Littlefield Lions Club, South Plains Antique Tractor Association, Littlefield Chamber of Commerce, and South Plains Community Action serving as Housing Director for 20 years.

Joe is survived by his wife, La Pearl and two daughters, Cynthia (and husband, Brad) Pierce of Austin, and Vonda (and husband, Lane) Nelson of Littlefield; four grandchildren, Cody Pierce of Idaho, Kaleigh Pierce of Austin, Matthew (and wife, Trisha) Nelson of Littlefield, and Holly Nelson of Littlefield; five great-grandchildren, Taos (6), Landon (4), Sawyer (3), Maddix (3), and Brecken (2); two sisters, Nancy (and husband, Larry) Leonard of Dallas, and Nollene (and husband, Steve) Denton of Houston, along with many nephews and nieces; and a sister-in-law Jan (and husband, Jim) Kurn of San Antonio.
