On May 4, 2023 around 1:40 p.m., a two vehicle collision on US Highway 385, 10.2 miles south of Springlake, resulting in two dead and two injured.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2015 Dodge Caravan was traveling south on US 385, approaching a hill. A 2017 Cadillac LL was traveling north on US 385, approaching the same hill. The driver of the Dodge Caravan, Rhonda Lynn Connor, 61, of Springlake, Tx, attempted to pass a truck tractor semitrailer in a no-passing zone.
Both vehicles crested the hill simultaneously, and both vehicles collided.
Connor was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock for serious injuries and the driver of the Cadillac LL, Teresa Ledesma Gonzalez, 52 of Springlake, Tx, was also transported to UMC in Lubbock for serious injuries.
The passenger in the Dodge Caravan, Sandra Sanchez Duran Gonzalez, 54 of Hart, Tx, was pronounced deceased on scene from injuries sustained during the crash. The passenger of vehicle two, Herlinda Guerrero, 58, of Springlake, Tx, was also pronounced deceased on the scene from injuries sustained during the crash.
