LCLN Big Bracket Challenge set to begin March 16

The college basketball regular season is coming to a close, leaving it all up to the selection Committee to determine who will make it to the “Big Dance”, that is the 2023 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

The field of teams will be selected on Sunday, March 12th, with the first four games to be played on March 14th and 15th with the first round of the tournament beginning on the 16th.

The fifth annual Lamb County Leader-News Big Bracket Challenge bracket will be published in the March 15th edition of the Leader-News.

Brackets must be competed and returned to us by 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 16th or postmarked before 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 16th if you are mailing your bracket in to us. You must pick the first four games correctly in order to receive credit for those game.

The “first four” games will be played March 14th and 15th at UD Arena in Dayton, Ohio, while the first and second round games will be played March 16th and 18th at Birmingham, AL, Des Moines, IA, Orlando FL, and Sacramento, CA. Also, on the 17th and 19th at Albany, NY, Columbus, OH, Denver, CO, and Greensboro, NC.

The Sweet 16 and Elite Eight dates and venues are March 23rd and 25th for the West and East Regionals at the T-Mobile Arena in Last Vegas, NV, and Madison Square Garden in New York, NY. Also, on March 24th and 26th for the Midwest and South Regionals at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, MO, and KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, KY.

The Final Four and National Championship will be played on April 1st and 3rd at NRG Stadium in Houston, TX.

First round games will be worth one point; second round games will be worth two points, Sweet 16 games will be worth four points, Elite 8 games will be worth eight points, Final Four games will be worth 16 points and the championship game will be worth 32 points.

In case of a tie, the tie-breaker will be the combined score of the championship game.

Results will be published in the Wednesday edition of the Leader-News on April 5th.
