Estrada, Brenda Herrell split week 10 football contest

Week 10 of the Lamb County Leader-News Football Contest is behind us and we have just two weeks remaining with a tight race for the overall price heating up.

This week the top spot belongs to Ivan Estrada and Brenda Herrell, each who finished with a score of 18-2 this week.

The tie-breaker this week was the combined score of the game between the Bills and the Packers, which was 44 points. Estrada and Brenda Herrell were each four points off of the tie-breaker, Estrada with a guess of 48 points and Brenda Herrell with a guess of 40 points, therefore they split the top two prizes evenly this week.

For third place we had seven contestants finish tied with a mark of 17- 3: JR Herrell, Johnny Rosemond, Mark Grace, Tommy Cloninger, Terrill Moorhead, Charlie Smith, Chris Ruiz and Richard Orozco, but it was Rosemond, who claimed the third prize this week with a guess of 45 points for the tie-breaker.

In the high school ranks, Littlefield dropped a heart-breaker on the road to Idalou, 17-13, while Sudan held on against Bovina, 2523, and Olton drummed Tahoka, 69-20. Amherst 45’ed Cotton Cen- ter on Thursday, 56-0, while Permian defeated San Angelo Central, 43-31.

Ropes took down Plains, 35-18, while Rider blasted Plainview, 56-7, and Shallowater took down Muleshoe, 48-20. Perryton defeated Borger, 35-26.

In the college ranks, Notre Dame pulled out the upset on the road over Syracuse, 41-24, while Kansas State shutout Oklahoma State, 480. Ohio State ran away late from Penn State, 44-31, while Tennessee blasted Kentucky, 44-6, and Ole Miss held on against Texas A&M, 31-28.

In the NFL, the Falcons took down the Panthers in overtime, 3734, while the Vikings knocked off the Cardinals, 34-26, and the Commanders edged out the Colts, 1716. The Patriots beat the Jets, 2217, and the 49’ers took down the defending Super Bowl Champion, Rams, 31-14.

The rest of the scores for this week are as follows: Those who finished 16-4 this week were Marin Duran, Gary Edwards, Lonnie Neinast, Marcelino Garcia Jr., and J. C. Orozco, while those who finished 15-5 this week were David Neinast, Donna Neinast, Jan Smith, Stevy Smith, Dewayne Hayes, Marcus Garcia, Alma Castillo, Trevor Williams and Pablo Trevino.

Oscar Sanchez and Floyce Pierce each finished 14-6 this week, while Devin Garcia and Robin Elliott each finished 13-7, and Ed Dabrowski, Maria Pinon, Teresa Dabrowski and Jimmy Garcia each finished 12-8. Thomas Blackstone and Sam Castillo each finished 11-9, while Marcelino Castillo finished 7-13 this week.

In the overall standings, Brenda Herrell and JR Herrell are tied for the top spot with 143 points, while Martin Duran sits in second place with 142 points, and David Neinast is in third place with 140 points. Rosemond and Edwards are tied for fourth with 139 points, while Estrada and Lonnie Neinast are tied for fifth with 138 points.

Donna Neinast and Jan Smith are tied for sixth with 136 points, while Grace is in seventh with 135 points, and Cloninger and Garcia Jr. are tied for eighth with 134 points, while Stevy Smith is in ninth with 133 points and Hayes rounds out the top 10 with 132 points.
