The Anton Bulldogs continue to struggle as they lost 53-6 in a road game against the Whiteface Antelopes last Friday in UIL high school six-man football action.
The Antelopes held the Bulldogs to under 30 yards total offense.
The Bulldogs were unable to get much going for most of the game. They suffered the first of two lost fumbles on the second play of the game, setting up a 20 yard Antelope scoring drive for an 8- 0 Whiteface lead with 8:37 left in the first quarter.
The Whiteface defense held on the next Bulldog possession forcing Anton to turn over on downs at their own 25 yard line.
That resulted in a Whiteface touchdown on the opening play of their drive and a 14-0 lead with six minutes remaining in the first quarter.
The third Anton drive saw the Bulldogs only able to move backwards. The drive ended when Dominic Gaitan was intercepted and run back to the Anton 11 yard line.
Whiteface scored again for a 220 lead with 2:47 left in the quarter. The next Anton drive saw their second lost fumble on the first play of their drive giving the Antelopes the ball on the Bulldog 29 yard line. Four plays later, Whiteface made the score 30-0 with 58 seconds left in the first quarter.
Anton engineered their only score on the next drive. Starting on their own 36 yard line, they were on third and 19 yards when a pass interference call against Whiteface gave them a first down on the Whiteface 32 yard line.
A second pass interference call on the Antelopes on fourth down and seven gave the Bulldogs a first and goal from the Whiteface 15 yard line.
A run by Gavin Martinez set up a Gaitan to Joe Whillock combination on second down and goal from the Whiteface 15 yard line. Whillock’s kick failed and the Bulldogs trailed 38-6 with 4:50 left in the half.
Whiteface answered with a 29 yard kick return, setting the Antelopes for a drive that culminated in a 46-6 lead with 2:47 left.
A short kick and resulting penalty gave the Bulldogs the ball on the Whiteface 31. They were able to gain only eight yards before turning over on downs at the Whiteface 33 with 1:33 left in the half.
The Bulldogs stalled the next Whiteface drive on the Anton 33 yard line, but a roughing the passer call on second down and 16 gave the Antelopes a first down and 15 on the Anton 18 yard line and the momentum for the final score on the next play. Dominic Gaitan went 2-for-13 for 11 yards and two interceptions. Lano Castillo went 1-for-2 for 10 yards and a touchdown. Gavin Martinez had six carries for 11 yards. Castillo had four carries for -11 yards. Gaitan had four carries for -15 yards. Martinez had two catches for 11 yards. Joe Whillock had a 10 yard touchdown catch. Anton hopes to get back on the winning track as the host Spur, also at 7:30 p.m.
