Lfd. City Council meets Tuesday in special session

The governing body of the City of Littlefield met at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2022 at the City Council Chambers for the purpose Littlefield City Council met in a special session on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2022 at 6 p.m. at the City Council Chambers.

Members present were Mayor Eric Turpen, Eric Saenz, Buddy Holmes and Mayor Pro tempore Kenny Rucker.

Member absent was Michael Rangel.

Others present were City Manager Mitch Grant, City Secretary Janine Butler and Treasurer Andrew Eisenwine. There were also seven members in the audience and 11 members of staff present.

Mayor Eric Turpen called the meeting to order at 6 p.m. Mayor Pro tempore Kenny Rucker led the invocation. Mayor Turpen lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

No one spoke for public comment.

Item number five on the agenda was to consider and approve the minutes from the previous meeting, which took place on Tuesday, July 26, 2022. Council Member Buddy Holmes made the motion to approve the minutes.

The next item on the agenda was to present and discuss No-New-Revenue Rate and Voter-Approval Rate. City Manager Mitch Grant presented the 2022 Tax Rate Calculation Worksheet from Lamb County Appraisal District.

Item number seven on the agenda was the work session for Preliminary Budget for Fiscal Year 2022-2023. After some discussion, Mayor Eric Turpen made a motion to increase garbage rates. Mayor Pro tempore Kenny Rucker made the second motion. The motion passed unanimously. An ordinance reflecting this request will be presented at a later meeting.

After further discussion, no action was taken on the proposed fire truck. A fire hydrant testing program was approved by all Council Members.

Direction was given to adjust the proposed budget with new garbage rate and possible tax rates, include wells or pod systems for parks, and ground water storage tank costs.

With there being no further business to discuss, Mayor Eric Turpen adjourned the meeting at 8:15 p.m.
