Sept. 18, 1927 ~ July 19, 2022
Rodney E. Ivey, 94, of Littlefield, formerly of Seymour, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2022 in Littlefield. He was born September 18, 1927 in Levelland, Texas to Floyd and Annie Pearl (Buffington) Ivey.
He married Gilda Jernigan in May 1982 in Levelland, Texas. Rodney was an old-fashioned man, with simple beliefs. He believed in the Lord, hard work, and love of family. That is evident in the way he lived his life. He farmed and ranched for many years in Baylor County and spent countless hours on a combine, doing custom harvesting. He loved cattle and horses and enjoyed going to cattle sales. The auctions were probably his favorite, because he enjoyed visiting with friends and strangers alike. He made an effort to be kind to everyone he came in contact with, even while at the nursing home. He was a dedicated farmer and rancher, even through the tough times. He had a deep respect for the land and what it produced. His greatest love was his family. Family was very important to Rodney and he made sure to pass that importance down to his kids. He was a proud American and held firm in his belief to always buy Made in the USA products, especially vehicles. Most of all, he believed in his Savior and always stood on the belief to trust in God.
He is survived by a daughter, Cassandra Waldrop and husband, Tommy of Littlefield; two grandchildren, Brent Waldrop and wife, Belisa and Aimee Gray and husband, Chad, all of Lubbock; two step grandchildren, Jennifer Bray and husband, Philip and Jamie Newsom and husband, Carl, all of Levelland; four great grandchildren, four step great grandchildren, and a step great-great grandchild; a brother, Alvie Ivey and wife, Kathy of Lubbock; a sister, Frances Frazier of Dimmitt; and other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gilda Ivey on July 3, 2018; a son, Len Ivey; grandson, Neven Ivey; his parents; and two sisters, Ellen Wall and Ellene Schoenrock.
Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Grace Chapel in Littlefield with Chaplain Mike Kelly officiating. Interment followed in Fairlawn Cemetery in Amherst. Arrangements were under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield.
