The Littlefield Independent School District Board of Trustees held a special session on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at 12 p.m. in the Board Room of the Administration Building.
Members in attendance were Lance Broadhurst, Will Williams, Adrian Solis, Johnny Castillo Jr., Gary Birkelbach, Pat Demel and superintendent Mike Read.
Members absent were Hervey Valdez Jr. Guests present were Mitch McNeese, Bryan Gregory, Bev Boldes, Rachel Moreno and Samantha Pontius with the Lamb County Leader News.
No one was present for public comment.
Superintendent Mike Read opened the discussion for the summer projects, which included safety and security, new playground equipment for the primary school and resurfacing the play ground for the elementary school, a brief on agenda item number five which was to approve Paragon for Design Services for the Softball field, closing the high school courtyard during passing periods, and updating the football stadium pillars. No action was necessary.
The next item on the agenda was the consideration and approval of the summer projects. Motion made by Adrian Solis and seconded by Pat Demel. The motion carried.
After the discussion of the summer projects, the Board jumped ahead to item number seven, the budget amendments, before taking action on the summer projects. Bev Boldes presented the budget amendments. Motion to approve the budget amendments was made by Adrian Solis and seconded by Pat Demel. The motion carried.
Backtracking to agenda item number five, Superintendent Mike Read said the amount for Paragon for Design Services for the relocation of the Softball field would be $1,951,333, which would come out of the excess operational funds balance discussed in the budget amendments. The motion to approve Paragon was set by Gary Birkelbach and seconded by Johnny Castillo Jr. The motion carried unanimously.
The next item on the agenda was the consideration and approve of the new employee salary distribution election form. If approved, this would allowed new LISD employees to receive a 13-month check in the beginning of August. This would only apply to new LISD employees and only for the first year. Motion made by Gary Birkelbach and seconded by Will Williams. The motion carried.
The next item on the agenda was to take action on Personnel Matters, Including the Resignation, Appointment, Employment, Evaluation, Reassignment, Duties, Discipline, Dismissal and/or Compensation of Individual District Employees. Superintendent Mike Read said they are approving the employment of Abigail Johnson, working in the SPED department, Madison Davis as a new coach, and Jett Hartley who will be teaching and coaching. Read also said they are approving the resignation of Kerri Isbell and Edward Trevino. Isbell is going to Frenship to teach senior English and Trevino is becoming an administrator for Plainview Elementary. “We wish both of those folks good luck,” Read said. Motion made by Johnny Castillo Jr. and seconded by Pat Demel. Motion carried.
With there being no further business to discuss, Board President Lance Broadhurst declared the meeting adjourned at 12:52 p.m.
