Planning and Zoning Commission holds special meeting Monday

The Littlefield Planning and Zoning Commission held a special meeting on Monday, June 27, 2022.

Vice President Lance Broadhurst called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m., Shawn Pickrell led the invocation and Johnny Rosemond led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Members in attendance were Vice President Lance Broadhurts, Johnny Rosemond, Lori Zinn and Shawn Pickrell.

Also in attendance was City Manager Mitch Grant and City Secretary Janine Butler.

Shannon Phillips and Cody West were in attendance and re-quested to comment regarding the request for the Littlefield Motel, located at 201 E. Marshall Howard Blvd., to open RV spots for daily and weekly traveling workers in the area.

Phillips said she moved here about five months ago and “got a crack motel” when she took over the Littlefield Motel. She said she got rid of “all the drug addicts and prostitutes” that were there and she cleaned up the motel.

Cody West expressed that he is not “in favor” of the property becoming an operational RV park, because he and his family had some bad past experiences with people living in tents in the RV spots, dogs running around the area, and the dumpster was overflowing.

Lance Broadhurst called to approve the minutes from the June 22, 2022 meeting. Johnny Rosemond made a motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Lori Zinn. The motion passed unanimously.

Broadhurst called for regular session to close at 5:21 p.m. and public hearing opened.

Shannon Phillips expressed the fact she has been working diligently to clean up the Littlefield Motel and the surrounding area. She also said she wants to be part of this community and wants to help the community, despite getting death threats and constant harassment.

West conveyed his concerns about the potential RV spots devaluing his home, located near where the RV spots would be located. He also voiced his concerns over the potential dangers that may occur because of the RV spots, recalling past encounters with the residents of the park.

Broadhurst closed the public hearing and regular session opened at 5:30 p.m.

After several minutes of discussion, Johnny Rosemond made the motion to deny the request. Shawn Pickrell seconded the motion. The motion to deny the request passed with a four-zero vote.

Lance Broadhurst called the meeting to adjourn at 5:43 p.m.
