‘Code Red’ issues Boil water notice

The City of Littlefield has issued a “Code Red” notice for a boil water notice for its residents.

The call was issued at about 11 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2022.

Due to a contractor strriking a large water main, the water pressure to the City’s public water system dropped below the regulated standard for a brief amount of time.

Even though the watter pressure was quickly corrected, and is currently at or above the set standard, the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ), has mandated that notice be sent out to all customers accessing theCity of Littlefield’ water system, to boil waater prior to its consumption, in order to ensure the destruction of all harmful bactgeria microbes.

The “Code Red” message advises that all water that is to be used for drinking, cooking and ice making, should be boiled and cooled prior to it consumption. Water must be brought to a vigorous rolling boil for at least two minutes.

In lleu of boiling water, bottled water may be purchased for consumption, or may be secured from sources other than from the City of Littlefield, the notice advises.

The boil water notice will continue until further notice that the water is safe to use. A call will be made to the residents who received this message on the “Code Red” line, on their telephones.
