The remains of Army Cpl. Marvin D. Actkinson, a Korean War Veteran from Sudan, (in Lamb County) in West Texas, who was reported missing on Dec. 2, 1950, after his unit was attacked while trying to withdraw from the Chosin River Reservoir in North Korea.
He was a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, according to a news release from the U.S. Army Human Resources Command in Fort Knox, Kentucky.
After being positively identified, he is being returned to Texas for burial.
Funeral services and burial are scheduled by Kiker-Seale Funeral Home in Colorado City, prior to burial, this Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022, at Colorado City, Texas.
According to a story that appeared in the Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022 Avalanche-Journal, that was attributed to the Abilene Reporter News, a news clipping reported he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. L.R. Actkinson, who recently had moved from Sudan to Mineral Wells.
The clipping stated that their son was a football player and boxer at Sudan High School, and entered the U.S. Army in March 1949. When he arrived in Korea on Sept. 8, 1950, he was a cook, the article stated.
The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency officially identi fied his remains Oct. 1, 2021 after using different types of DNA analysis, the news articles report.
The Avalanche-Journal stories report that there are more than 7,500 Americans who are still un-accounted for, from the Korean War, and listed as POW/MIA.
