Marcelline (Marcy) Demel

Marcelline (Marcy) Caroline Demel, 91, of Pep, Texas, passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at home, surrounded by her family.

Marcy was born December 2, 1930 to Albert and Celia (Kuehler) Sokora in Knox County, Texas. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Rhineland before her family moved to Pep, Texas. Marcy graduated as valedictorian from Pep High School in 1948 and married Gaulbert Demel on August 24, 1948 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. They raised their family and farmed in the Bula area, teaching them the value of Faith, family, and hard work. Marcy was an active member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Pep. She lived out her faith, working in various organizations including keeping the church financial books, teaching religious classes for 25 years, she held offices in multiple organizations including St. Philip Neri Parish and Pastoral Council, Alter Society, and the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, DCCW Deanery of Diocesan office, and chaired the annual Pep Thanksgiving Festivals for many years. She volunteered for PTA, the Lamb County Hospital Auxiliary, and served on the Hospital Board of Directors. She was named 2002 Woman of the Year by the Littlefield Chamber of Commerce. She also received the 2003 Service Award for Stewardship of Time, Talent & Treasure from the Diocese of Lubbock.

Marcy is proceeded in death by her parents, Albert and Celia Sokora; her husband, Gaulbert Demel; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth; and a great granddaughter Weslyn McWilliams.

She is survived by her children, Justin Demel and wife, Doreen of Wichita, Kansas, Pam McFadden and husband, Mark of Olton, Vanessa Cave and husband, Bryan of Snyder, Dale Demel and wife, Cindy of Bula, and Pat Demel and wife, Tammy of Littlefield. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Brother and sisters include Eugene Sokora of Slaton, Mary Ann Hughes of Seminole, Carolyn Vater of Mason, TX, Bridget Ralston of Levelland, James (Jimmy) Sokora of Littlefield, William (Billy) Sokora of Cypress, and Nancy Demel of Pettit.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the many loving caregivers that took care of Marcy these last years as well as Legacy of Love Hospice Care.

Rosary was held on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. at Grace Chapel in Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield. Services will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 10 a.m. at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Pep with Father Angelo Consemino officiating, with burial following in St. Philip Neri Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield.
