Week eight of the Lamb County Leader-News Football Contest is in the books and had some exciting match-ups throughout the ranks.
Jim David Jr. took home first place this week with a mark of 18-2. We had four players tie for second place with a mark of 17-3: Ivan Estrada, Oscar Sanchez, Kay Cloninger and Devin Garcia.
The tie-breaker this week was the combined score of the Rams and Giants, which was 49 points.
By way of tie-breaker, Estrada took second place guessing it right on the nail with 49 points. Devin Garcia was the next closest with a guess of 47 points to take third place.
In the high school ranks this week, Littlefield blew a big halftime lead at home against Dalhart, as they fell to the Wolves, 41-32. Olton throttled Boys Ranch, 37-6, while Amherst dropped a tough contest to Whitharral, 62-54.
Springlake-Earth picked up a win, via a Lorenzo forfeit, while Anton 45’ed Cotton Center, 51-6, and New Deal took down Post, 35-6. Spearman ran over Highland Park, 47-12, while Tascosa kept it rolling with a, 46-14, victory over Caprock.
Sundwon blasted Floydada, 46-7, while Abernathy picked up a huge win over Idalou, 33-10.
In the college ranks, Oklahoma State knocked off Texas, 32-24, while UCLA took down Washington, 24-17, and unranked Purdue knocked off #2 Iowa, 24-7. North Carolina edged out Miami, 45-42 and Ole Miss survived against Tenneesse, 31-26.
In the NFL, The Cowboys won in overtime on the road against the Patriots, 35-29, while the Cardinals stayed undefeated against the Browns with a, 37-14, victory. The Packers took down the Bears, 24-14, while the Chiefs took down Washington on the road, 31-13, and the Colts throttled the Texans, 31-3.

Those who finished 16-4 this week are Brenda Herrell, David Neinast, Dewayne Hayes, JR Herrell, Lonnie Neinast, Marcelino Garcia Jr., Marcus Garcia, Mark Grace and Stevy Smith, while those who finished with a mark of 15-5 this week are Donna Neinast, Floyce Pierce, Richard Orozco, Robin Elliott and Terrill Moorhead.
Contestants who finished 14-6 this week were Chris Ruiz, Jan Smith, Jimmy Davis Sr., Johhny Rosemond, Martin Duran, Martin Duran Jr., and Tommy Cloninger, while those who finished 13-7 this week were Bobby Cunningham, Ed Dabrowski, Lyndel Evans and Sam Castillo.
Alma Castillo and Larry Ashley each finished 12-8 this week, while Juan Hernandez finished 11-9, Teresa Dabrowski finished 10-10 and Marcelino Castillo finished 7-13.
In the overall standings, we now have four contestants tied for the number one spot with 117 points: Estrada, Sanchez, Donna Neinast and Tommy Cloninger.
Lonnie Neinast and Evans are tied for second with 116 points, while Kay Cloninger, David Neinast and Garcia Jr., are tied for third with 115 points. Grace is in fourth place with 113 points, while Moorhead and Rosemond are tied for fifth with 112 points.
JR Herrell is in sixth with 110 points, while Davis Jr., is in seventh with 109 points and Hayes is in eighth with 108 points. Jan Smith is in ninth with 107 points and Devin Garcia rounds out the top 10 with 106 points.
