Jolene Shafer, 86, of Levelland and formerly of Olton, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021, in Lubbock, TX. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 15, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church in Olton with Pastor Kyle Brock officiating. Interment followed at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.
Jolene was born Dec. 8, 1934, in Olton, TX, to Melvin and Edisy (Lawson) Wozencraft. A graduate of Olton High School in 1953, Jolene married Freddie Bob Burgess, on June 7, 1953. She worked as a legal secretary for Andy Stroebel for over 30 years before retiring in 2011. A member of the First United Methodist Church, Jolene made the best dish scrubbies that she donated to benefit the United Methodist Annual Bazaar. She also volunteered at Olton’s Sandcrawl Museum and for the Olton Volunteer Ambulance Association. She served as the City of Olton’s Municipal Court Judge in the late 1970’s. Jolene moved to Levelland in 2011.
