Martin Duran wins week six of Football Contest

Week six of the Lamb County Leader-News Football Contest is behind us and this week’s list of games were able to avoid complete cancellations due to weather.

There were three contestants tied for the top spot this week at 17-3, which included, Marcelino Garcia Jr., Martin Duran and Stevy Smith.

The tie-breaker this week was the combined score between the Ravens and the Broncos, which was 30 points.

By way of tie-breaker, Martin Duran took home first place with a guess of 44 points for the tiebreaker, edging out Garcia Jr., who took second place with a guess of 45 points and Stevy Smith took third place with a guess of 64 points.

In the high school ranks,

Littlefield fell on the road to Big Spring, 47-29, while Olton went up, 21-0 on Smyer, before the game was called at halftime, due to weather. Roscoe defeated Sudan, 6-0, while Anton edged out Paducah, 65-57.

Shallowater went on the road and took down Panhandle, 37-29, while Ropes won a low-scoring affair over Crosbyton, 8-7. Permian took down Frenship on the road, 17-14, while Hereford took down Andrews, 40-33 and Amherst defeated Claude in the third quarter of their contest, 40- 26.

In the college ranks, Texas took down TCU, 32-27, while Notre Dame fell to Cincinnati, 24-13. Michigan blasted Wisconsin, 38- 17, while Georgia blew out Arkansas, 37-0. Tennessee routed Missouri, 62-24.

In the NFL, The Chiefs outscored the Eagles, 42-30, while the Packers took down the Steelers, 27-17. The Bears defeated the Lions, 24-14, while the Cardinals took down the Rams, 37-20, and the Seahawks edged out the 49’ers, 28-21.

The rest of the contestant results for week two are as follows:

Those who finished 16-4 this week were Lyndal Evans, Thomas Blackstone, Richard Orozco and Martin Duran Jr., while contestants, who finishes 15-5 this week were Brenda Herrell, Bobby Cunningham, Floyce Pierce, Ivan Estrada, Kay Cloninger and Terrill Moorhead.

Donna Neinast, Jan Smith, Jim Davis Sr., Dewayne Hayes, Ed Dabrowski, Alma Castillo, Devin Garcia, Marcus Garcia and Sam Castillo, each finished 14-6 this week, while Jim Davis Jr., Charlie Smith, Tommy Cloninger, David Neinast, Johnny Rosemond and Mark Grace each finished 13-7.

JR Herrell, Ronnie Martin, Juan Hernandez and Teresa Dabrowski finished 12-8 this week, while Lonnie Neinast, Oscar Sanchez, Larry Ashley and Marcelino Castillo each finished 11-9 this week.

In the overall standings, Donna Neinast leads the pack with 88 total points, while Lyndal Evans and Tommy Cloninger are tied for second with 86 points. David Neinast is alone in third place with 85 points, while Lonnie Neinast is in fourth place with 84 points. Garcia Jr., Duran, Estrada, Sanchez, Kay Cloninger and Rosemond are tied for fifth with 83 points.

Moorehead is alone in sixth place with 82 points, while Davis Jr., is alone in seventh place with 81 points. Jan Smith, Blackstone, Hayes and Grace are tied for eighth with 80 points, while Ed Dabrowski and JR Herrell are tied for ninth place with a score of 79 points.

David Sr., rounds out the top 10 with 78 points.
