The theme of this year’s National 4-H Week is Find Your Spark, which highlights how 4- H offers opportunities for youth to find their passion and explore learning about that passion and what lies within it through handson learning experiences. The positive environment provided by 4-H mentors ensures that kids in every county in the country - from urban neighborhoods to suburban schoolyards to rural farming communities - are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles and are empowered with the skills to lead in life and career.
“Our 4-H members are constantly pursuing leadership skills, service opportunities, and ways to better themselves. Their passion for others truly amazes me..” said Kendra Callahan, Lamb County Extension Agent for Family & Community Health. “Each Lamb County 4-H club is thinking out of the box this year when it comes to events and community service opportunities. We’re really excited to see what the 2021-2022 year brings us.”
Right now, 4-H members are pre-paring for upcoming livestock shows, participating in food and nutrition projects, and getting ready for an upcoming meats judging contest. Public speaking, Share-the-Fun, and Educational Presentations are also coming up in January. One of the best things about 4-H is that it has something to offer everyone. 4-H is also extremely family oriented – we want 4-H projects to be a fun opportunity for fellowship inside and outside of the home.
In Lamb County, more than 120 4-H youth and 40 volunteers from throughout the county are involved in 4-H.
In Texas, one of the most anticipated events of National 4-H Week every year is One Day 4-H. The goal of One Day 4-H is to encourage 4-H members in every Texas county to take one Saturday in October to make a big impact on a big state. One Day 4-H will be held on October 9, 2021, in every county across Texas. 4-H members, adult volunteers, and friends will help improve their communities by adopting a service project. This year, Lamb County 4-H clubs are celebrating One Day 4-H with several opportunities for community service throughout the month. Learn more about One Day 4-H at texas4-h.tamu.edu/events/ oneday/.
