Commissioners meet in regular session

The Commissioners Court of Lamb County met in regular session on Monday morning in the Lamb County Courthouse.

Lamb County Judge Mike DeLoach called the meeting to order and there was no one present for Public Forum.

Item three was consent agenda items in which the commissioners considered and took appropriate action on: the minutes from the previous regular meeting, which was held on Sept. 13 th , on the budget and salary amendments and/ or line item transfers; none, on the bills presented by the County Auditor, Gina Jones, on payroll, which was presented by Jerry Yarbrough, on departmental reports and on Lamb County’s Treasurer’s 2 nd quarter report presented by Yarbrough.

The motion was made by Commissioner Lee Logan and seconded by Commissioner Danny Short to approve the consent agenda items. The motion carried.

Next the Board discussed Proposals for Architectural & Engineering Services for County Projects.

“Just because we approve this, we are not approving any projects,” Judge DeLoach said. “We are just bringing an architect on board, so that when we do want to look at things, we have an architect that will do that for us. Two of the things I want to have them look at are the Ag Barn and the potential for expanding the Sheriff’s Office. Again, it doesn’t mean that we are going to do either of these, it just means that we will have the information we need to make those decisions.”

The motion was made by Commissioner Cory DeBerry and seconded by Commissioner Short to approve action on Proposals from Chapman Harvey Architects, Inc. for Architectural & Engineering Services for County Projects. The motion carried.

Commissioner Logan discussed Item 5, which was the Soil Conservation work in Precinct 4. The motion to approve the Soil Conservation work in Precinct 4 was made by Commissioner Logan and seconded by Commissioner Kent Lewis. The motion carried.

Judge DeLoach presented the next item, which was the 2022 Holiday Schedule, saying, “This basically follows the same thing that we did last year. The only thing that I did different was that instead of taking off Jan. 3, 2022, we’re going to take off Dec. 31, 2021. We still have two days for Christmas, which will be that Friday and Monday; Thanksgiving will be the same and we will also have Veteran’s Day, Columbus Day, Labor Day, Independence Day, Memorial Day, Good Friday, Texas Independence Day, President’s Day, MLK Day and New Year’s Day. That is what I have proposed.”

The motion to approve the Holiday schedule for 2022 was made by Commissioner Logan and seconded by Commissioner Lewis. The motion carried.

Next the Commissioners considered and took appropriate action on Poll Workers, Central counting station and Early voting ballot board for Special Election on Nov. 2, 2021.

The motion was made by Commissioner Short and seconded by Commissioner Logan to approve action Poll Workers, Central counting station, and Early voting ballot board for Special Election on Nov. 2, 2021. the motion carried.

Yarbrough presented her proposal for Lamb County’s Part time employees earning personal leave, saying, “Our permanent part-time employees right now do not get any holiday pay or any personal time. What I’m proposing is, that we’re going to give part time employees three hours every two weeks. Each office that has a part time worker is going to give me how many hours that person typically works per week. You can earn up to 78 hours per year, but carry over is only going to be 58 hours and there will be no payouts if there is a separation. If you are here you can use it, if you leave it goes away.” She added, “For holiday pay,

She added, “For holiday pay, I’m asking for four hours of holiday pay. The wording in the handbook will be up to four hours, because if they only need three hours that week to get them to 29 hours, that’s all they’re going to get, they’re not going to go over that.”

The Commissioners were presented Lamb County’s 2022 Renewal of Worker’s Comp. The motion to approve Lamb County’s 2022 Renewal of Worker’s Comp was made by Commissioner DeBerry and seconded by Commissioner Short. The motion carried.

“I’m doing the exact same thing that we have always done for Worker’s Comp,” Yarbrough said.

Cindy Pope gave a report on Lamb Healthcare Center and Judge DeLoach stated that the next Commissioner’s Court meeting will be on Friday, Oct. 8 th at 10 a.m.
