Commissioners begin budget work sessions
Lamb County Commissioners held a short regular business meeting Monday, July 19, 2021, in their meeting room of the County Courthouse in Littlefield.
Following the completion of its usual business agenda, the commissioners began a budget work session with some of the county’s department heads at about 10:26 a.m.

Lamb County Judge James M. DeLoach called the meeting to order, then offered the invocation, and led the pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags, before he found that no one wanted to make a public comment about any of the agenda items.
The two Consent Agenda items included:
a) Some budget and salary amendments, and/or line-item transfers were presented by the County Auditor, to be considered during the budget work sessions.
b) Lamb County Bills presented by the County Auditor amounted to a total of $87,711.87.
The Consent Agenda items were approved unanimously.
Commissioners approved the certification of Grant Revenue from the American Rescue Plan Grant, that was received after the start of the present fiscal year. Judge DeLoach advised that
Judge DeLoach advised that there are some things they don’t know about, that will still be coming before the Commissioners. He said: “The Grant money must be obligated by the end of 2024, and must be spent by Dec. 24, 2026.”
The Commissioners Court then approved setting up a Special Budget for the American Rescue Plan Grant.
Bids received for the purchase of a backhoe for Precinct 1, were considered and approved. Judge DeLoach advised that bids were opened Friday from Warren Cat, which offered a difference of $67,000 from its backhoe, and the Pct.1 trade-in backhoe.
The Commissioners then approved the financing offered by Government Capital Financing for the backhoe for Precinct 1, for three payments of $23,804.36. Commissioners approved a
Commissioners approved a Managed WiFi Service Agreement for the Olton Library, by getting a router from 5-Area Telephone for the system. The additional contract was for a slight increase in the monthly fee.
Commissioners considered the request to change the District Judge’s Administrative Assistant’s employment from part-time to full-time, and to set the salary.
Judge DeLoach advised the court that some of the money from the American Rescue Grant could be used to help with cleaning up the District Court docket. He also recommended that the salary be left where it is. Commissioners voted to approve the Judge’s suggestion.
Commissioners began their first Budget Work Session with a county department head, at about 10:25 a.m.
Judge DeLoach noted that the commissioners will be meeting every Monday with department heads, regarding their budgets, until all departments have discussed their budgets.
