Boyd McCamish is retiring from Lamb County Electric Co-Op after 47 years of service. He was raised in Muleshoe, but has spent the last 47 years in Littlefield.
“It has been great working for LCEC,” he stated. “I’ve been very blessed in my career here. I started out as a lineman trainee and advanced through the ranks.”
McCamish said that his goal when he started at LCEC was to become an operations manager, and he achieved that in 1992.
“This came along in 2012 and I had the opportunity to serve as General Manager at LCEC,” he explained. “We’ve seen a lot of people come and go, but the membership is great. There are 41 of us and it is like a family; the employees have made my job very easy. It has been a great experience and I’m going to miss it.”
He added, “I wrote an article for a magazine that came out that says, ‘when you’ve been somewhere 47 years, you don’t leave and not take a big chunk of it with you’. I’m going to take a big chunk of it with me, but I will be back to visit.”
McCamish stated that he was not planning on retiring until he was hospitalized with COVID-19 last fall.
“I moved my retirement date to July 2021 and we plan on relocating to the Texas Gulf Coast.
“Nobody knows us down there, that’s why we’re going,” he laughed. “We like that area and we like the water.”
He added, “When I got COVID-19, they diagnosed me with COVID Lung and I still have trouble breathing. So, when I get down to that low sea level, I am able to breath a lot easier.”
McCamish said that he doesn’t really have any hobbies, but that he used to team rope.
“I had to give that up because of a broke shoulder, but when we get to the coast I plan to fish and travel,” he said.
McCamish also served on the Littlefield School Board for 27 years and was president for 17 of those years. He was also heavily involved in the community and letting the employees work and participate in the community as well.
McCamish and his wife, Cecilia, have been married for 47 years and they have two grown children, seven grand children and one great-grandchild.
“It has been a great experience and it has been wonderful here, but I know I’m leaving it in good hands with Mr. Blake Moore,” he stated.
