Nettes fall to Slaton, 11-2, in tournament-opener

The Sudan Nettes summer league team fell to the Slaton Tigerettes on Thursday, 11-2, in their first game of the end of season tournament in Littlefield.

Kambry Tolbert drew a walk to open the game for the Nettes, and she took second on a pitch, before Blessy Montes hit an RBIsingle to right field, taking second on the throw home, as Sudan took a, 1-0 lead.

Montes took second on a past ball, before Victoria Leal struck out looking for out number one. Liz Sital hit an RBI-sacrifice grounder to shortstop and was thrown out at first, as Montes scored to make the score, 2-0. Angie Thorn, though, would ground out to second base to retire the side.

Lexi hit an infield single to Tolbert at shortstop, but Thorn got Savy to strikeout swinging for out number one. Kayla flew out to Kinley Coker in center field for out number two, but Kolby singled up the middle to give the Tigerettes another base runner. Adri grounded out to Thorn in the circle to end the inning, as Slaton stranded two runners on base.

Sudan had nothing going offensively in the top of the second, as Coker struck out swinging, Jaelyn Cannon was tagged out on a dropped third strike and Edette Herrera struck out swinging to retire the side.

Thorn loaded the bases with back-to-back walks and a hit batsman to start the bottom half of the second inning, before she got Adriana to strike out looking for out number one. Slaton tied the game before Lexi drew a walk to reload the bases for Slaton with the score, 2-2.

Kam scored on a past ball to give Slaton the lead, 3-2, before Savy walked, but Thorn got Kayla to strike out swinging and Kolby hit a shot back at Thorn in the circle, who got the out at first to end the inning.

Erica Herrera hit a grounder to the right side that was fielded by the pitcher and flipped to first for the first out of the third inning. Tolbert struck out swinging and Montes grounded out to the pitcher to retire the side.

Adri singled to Montes at second base to lead off the bottom half of the side and Jac drew a walk to put two runners on for Slaton. Kam struck out swinging for out number one, but KK hit a two-RBI double to left-center field to make the score, 5-2.

Adriana drew a walk and Lexi hit an RBI-single off of the glove of Thorn in the circle, extending the Slaton lead to, 6-2. Savy drew a walk to re-load the bases for Slaton and Kayla drove in two runs with a single to second on an error by Montes, making the score, 8-2.

Kolby too singled on an error by Montes at second base, and she stole second on a heads-up base running play, as the Tigerettes extended their lead to, 9-2. Adri hit a sacrifice grounder to Montes at second base, who got the out at first, as another run crossed for Slaton, stretching the lead to, 10-2. Jac had an RBI single pop out of the glove of Montes at second base to make the score, 11-2, and Kam had a pop up fall between Thorn and Leal on the first-base line, but KK popped up to Sital at third base to end the inning.

In the top of the fourth inning, Leal drew a walk to lead things off and Sital hit a shot back at KK in the circle, who got the out at first, as Leal advanced to second with one out. Thorn struck out swinging for out number two and Coker struck out looking to end the game, as Slaton moved into the winners bracket with the, 11-2, victory.
