The Littlefield Independent School District’s Board of Trustees met in regular session on Tuesday, May 11th to discuss the business of the school district.
Board President Lance Broadhurst called the meeting to order and superintendent Mike Read gave the invocation.
During public forum, Mr. read presented certificates to Littlefield High School’s Valedictorian (Geyah Garza) and Salutatorian (Judith Alvarez) for their academic accomplishments. Mr. Read presented a certificate to Mitch McNeese recognizing him and the Wildcat Baseball Team for winning the District Championship.
The Minutes from the previous meeting were approved by general consent and the campus administrators reported on campus activities, programs, student performance and facilities.
School Board candidates: Will Williams – Precinct 1 and Lance Broadhurst – Precinct 3 have been certified as unopposed and, therefore duly elected.
The Secretary of State recommends these post-election procedures: Statement of Elected Officer is completed, Certificate of Election is issued to newly-elected officers and Newly-elected officers take the Oath of Office.
Next Board reorganization took place with Gary Birkelbach made a nomination that was seconded by Johnny Castillo to elect Lance Broadhurst as Board President. There being no further nominations, Broadhurst was named President by acclamation.
Adrian Solis nominated Pat Demel as Board Vice President and it was seconded by Birkelbach. There being no further nominations, Mr. Demel was named Vice President by acclamation.
Williams made a nomination that was seconded by Birkelbach to elect Solis as Board Secretary. There being no further nominations, Mr. Solis was named Board Secretary by acclamation.
A nomination by Birkelbach was seconded by Castillo to appoint Hervey Valdez as TASB Assembly Delegate. There being no further nominations, Mr. Valdez was named TASB Assembly Delegate by acclamation.
A nomination by Valdez was seconded by Demel to appoint Birkelbach as TASB Assembly Delegate Alternate. There being no further nominations, Mr. Birkelbach was named TASB Assembly Delegate Alternate by acclamation.
The Board went over TASB Policy Revisions and the motion was made by Solis and seconded by Valdez to approve the TASB Policy Revisions as presented by Mr. Read. The motion carried.
Mitch McNeese precented the SHAC Report and the motion was made by Williams and seconded by Valdez to approve the SHAC report as presented. The motion carried.
There were no Trust Property Dispositions and the Facilities Maintenance Priorities Plan was presented by Mr. Read. The motion to approve the Facilities Maintenance and Priorities Plan was made by Solis and seconded by Valdez. The motion carried.
Pursuant of Texas Government Code Section 551.071 the Board went into executive session to discuss personnel at 7:40 p.m. They returned to regular session at 8:07 p.m.
Certified Personnel
The motion was made by Solis and seconded by Williams to approve contracts for Probationary Contract Certified Staff members Jeana Hill, Chelsey Jones, Susan Franklin, and Missy Bigham as recommended by Mr. Read and Principals. The motion carried.
At-Will Personnel
Renea McKinnon was hired as the SPED Secretary.
Mr. Read went over the Financial and Investment Review & Report and the motion to approve the Financial and Investment Review & Report was made by Solis and seconded by Williams. The motion carried.
Mr. Read presented Board Training information and the meeting was adjoured by Board President Broadhurst at 8:29 p.m.
