City Council discusses replacing city vehicles

The governing body of the City of Littlefield met at 5:30p.m. Monday, April 26, 2021 in the City Council Chambers, 525 Phelps Avenue, for the purpose of considering all matters and related incidents to the City of Littlefield.

Council members present were Mayor Eric Turpen; Michael Rangel, District 2; Eric Saenz, District 1; Buddy Holmes, District 3; and Kenny Rucker, Mayor Pro tempore, and District 4.

Others attending were City Manager, Mitch Grant; City Secretary, Janine Butler; Treasurer, Andrew Eisenwine; and one guest and three staff members.

Mayor Eric Turpen called the meeting to order at 5:30p.m.

Mayor pro tempore Kenny Rucker led the invocation, and Mayor Turpen led the pledge to the U.S. flag.

No one requested to make a public comment on any Agenda Item.

Council members considered the agenda item about Equipment Purchases for Solid Waste Collections and Disposal and Declared an Emergency.

City Manager Mitch Grant explained the 2013 side-loader now has a new engine in it and is back to work. The second truck should be back in operation soon. One of the 2014 Freightliner side-loaders was damaged recently in a motor vehicle accident.

On Dec. 15, 2020, the City Council approved the purchase of a new vehicle and it is scheduled to arrive in September 2021. The city manager advised that the city could order another truck and Maybe get it by October 2021.

Waste Removers from Wolfforth has been sending trucks occasionally to help. Littlefield has an agreement with Republic Waste to help get caught up at $1,600 a day. A scraper and compactor are also needed at the landfill.

The motion to approve purchase of $192,777.40 for a 27- yard 2022 Freightliner on next year’s budget, was made by Mayor pro tempore Kenny Rucker. The second motion was made by Council Member Buddy Holmes, and the motion passed unanimously

Mayor Turpen closed the regular session at 5:52 p.m., and opened the Executive Session: Regarding Sale of Real Property TCCC-BCF. Texas Government Code, Section 551.071 (Consultation with Attorney), 551.072 (Deliberations about Real Property)

Mayor Turpen closed the executive session and reopened the regular session at 6:12 p.m. No action was taken.

No action was taken on the agenda item: “Discuss and Consider the Contract of Sale, Agreement for Payment in Lieu of Taxes, and Contingent Option Agreement for Purchase of Real Property by and between the City and Management & Training Corporation, a Delaware corporation; for the sale of real property on which the Texas Civil Commitment Center-Bill Clayton Facility is located, including all buildings, improvements, and personal property, for economic development purposes.”

Mayor Turpen adjourned the meeting at 6:12 p.m.
