LCU Coach, featured speaker
The featured speaker will be Head Coach Steve Gomez, of the LCU Lady Chaps’ successful basketball team.
An LCU graduate, Gomez was a standout perimeter player for Coach John Copeland in the late 1980s, and to this day, he still holds the school record for career free throw percentage at .855.
He graduated from LCU in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, and consistently used his degree to teach in the classrooom while pursuing coaching on the sidelines.
His career began at Lubbock Monterey High School, as an assistant coach from 1988 to 1995 in the men’s basketball program.
In 1996, he accepted the men’s basketball head coaching position at Lubbock Cooper High School, where he remained until he took over the reigns of the LCU Lady Chaps in 2003.
He credits a lot of his success to the 30 years of support from his wife, Shawna, and their two sons: Hayden and Landon.
