Commissioners consider 11-item agenda

Lamb County Commissioners  conducted a regular business meeting Monday, April 12, 2021, when they considered an  1-item agenda.

One of those 11 items was the seven Consent Agenda Items, which required no deliberation from the commissioners, and all were approved unanimously on one motion and second.

Lamb County Judge James M. DeLoach called the meeting to order, then led the invocation and the pledges to the U.S. and Texas Flags.

Since there was no one who made a public comment on any of the agenda items, the public comment agenda item was closed, and the Consent Agenda Items were considered.

a) Minutes from the previous meeting on March 22, were considered to be in order.

b) There were no budget and salary amendments and/or lineitem transfers to be considered.

c) Bills presented by the County Auditor included $158,023.97 for Lamb County and $835,267.28 for Lamb Healthcare Center, for a total of $993,291.25, of bills to be paid.

d) Payrolls presented by the Lamb County Treasurer included: $142,576.75 for Lamb County; and $162,146.36 for Lamb Healthcare Center.

e) The departmental reports that were received and were considered for approval.

f) The Lamb County Library’s receipt of $100 from the Presbyterian Church was considered for approval.

g) Out-of-State Travel for the Sheriff for attendance at the National Conference in Arizona, regarding his records and computer network; and another trip with some of his deputies to attend another conference in Florida, were discused and considered for approval.

All of the Consent Agenda Items were approved unanimously by the Commissioners on one motion and second.

9. Commissioners next voted to approve the sealed bids for the County’s Depository Contract that was submitted by First Bank and Trust.

The contract has been with AimBank, before its merger with First Bank and Trust, and commissioners voted to stay with First Bank and Trust.

5. Commisioners voted to eliminate the COVID Sick Leave Policy, since vaccine is now available, and it is a personal choice as to whether an individual wants to take the vaccine, or not. Judge DeLoach suggested that
the county get back to the county’s “normal sick leave policy.”

4. Commissioners took no action on the Burn Ban, and wanted leave the ban off as it is now.

6. Commissioners voted to approve  the E-Read Texas Agreement with Lamb County Library & Amigos Library Services, that provide E-books to libraries for patrons, along with other services.

7. Commissioners voted to approve the county judge to advertise for sealed bids to refurbish the elevator in the Courthouse.

8. Cindy Klein, CEO of Lamb Healthcare Center, presented several  ideas that are being considered as potential solutions for Cares Act Projects at Lamb Healthcare Center.

She emphasized that the Hospital Board of Managers will be conducting a meeting to consider several projects, that have been suggested, that can provide separation and better safety while treating extreme viral cases of patients.
She explained, “We will now wait until they decide what to do.”

10. Future Agenda Items. Judge DeLoach reminded the commissioners that budget discussions will begin around the first of June, and that meetings will be conducted nearl every Monday for six weeks on the budget.

He also advised: he was reminding everyone who got their first vaccinations at the Ag Center, are due to get their second vaccinations.

He said they should go get that second vaccination Thursday, April 15, at the Ag Center. They don’t need to make an appointment, just go at the same time they got the first vaccination.
