Lady Cats fall to Levelland, 14-4

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity softball team fell to the Levelland Loboettes, 14-4, on the road on Saturday in non-district play.

With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 4-3 overall on the season.

Mackenzie Price doubled off of the left-center field fence to lead off the top of the first inning for Littlefield and senior, Geyah Garza, followed it up with an RBI-single up the middle. She took second on the throw home from center field by Jaclyn Puente, as the Lady Cats took a, 1-0 lead.

Sophomore, Cadence Sanchez, singled on an error by Angelia Gonzalez at shortstop and junior, Brookelyn Gau, singled over second to score Garza, making the score, 2-0. The rally was derailed as Madison McNeese, Kaeleigh Logan and Tricia Torres went down swinging in order to retire the side.

Puente drew a lead-off walk to open the bottom half of the inning for Levelland and Natalie Coronado doubled to left field on a missed fly ball by Price. A pop up in front of the plate by Gonzalez was missed by Logan to load the bases and Chloe Constantino hit a two-RBI single past Garza at shortstop to tie the game, 2-2.

Levelland hit a sac grounder to Julie Rodriguez at second base, who got the out at first for out number one, as the runners moved up 90 feet. But, Erica Castillo hit a two-RBI single over McNeese at first base to put Levelland out in front, 4-2. Sanchez got Makalyn Guillen to strike out looking for out number two, but Senovia Davila and Madalon Rico both singled through the left side to load the bases for the Loboettes.

Puente hit a two-RBI double off ofthe left-center field fence to make the score, 6-2, before Coronado struck out looking to end the inning.

The Lady Cats were unable to get anything going in the top of the second as Rodriguez, Hannah Ballejo and Price went down in order to retire the side.

Gonzalez blooped a single over McNeese at first base and Constantino promptly unloaded the bases with a two-run homerun to left field to extend their lead to, 8-2. Sanchez recovered in the circle, as she got the next batter to strike out swinging for out number one.

Castillo singled on an error by McNeese at first base and took second on a pitch, before Sanchez got Guillen to strike out swinging for out number two. Davila grounded out to Garza at shortstop to end the inning.

Garza singled up the middle to open the third inning for Littlefield and Sanchez roped an RBI-triple down the third-base line to trim the lead to, 8-3. Brookelyn Gau hit a sacrifice grounder to Coronado at second base, who got the out at first, as Sanchez came in to score, cutting the lead to, 8-4.

McNeese singled up the middle, but Logan hit into a fielder’s choice to Gonzalez at shortstop, who got the out at second for out number two. Tones popped up to Gonzalez at shortstop to retire the side.

Levelland was able to get a runner on in the bottom of the third, but the threat would not come to pass, as the Lady Cat defense was able to make quick work of the Loboettes batters.

The Loboettes added four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and walked off with the win in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Guillen blooped a hit over Garza at shortstop to score the game-winning run, making the final score, 14-4.

Sanchez pitched four innings earning four strikes, while giving up 13 runs and one walk. Brookelyn Gau relieved Sanchez in the fifth inning, giving up one walk and one run.

The Lady Cats will be at Tahoka on Saturday for a contest against the Lady Dogs.

First pitch is scheduled for noon.
