Wolverines down Amherst, 90-44, to claim district championship

The Springlake-Earth Wolverines’ varsity basketball team secured the district championship on Friday with a road victory over Amherst, 90-44.

With the win, the Wolveirnes improve to 14-3 overall, 11-0 in district play.

The Wolverines exploded out of the gate with a 30-point first quarter, including 14 points from junior, Kaden Castillo. They outscored the Bulldogs, 13-9, in the second frame to take a, 43-20, lead into the locker room at halftime.

Out of the break, junior, Evan DeLeon, knocked down three triples, as the Wolverines opened the second half with a 26-point third quarter to extend their lead to, 69-38, heading into the final quarter of play.

They turned in 21 points in the fourth quarter to take the contest, 90-44.

Castillo led all scorers with 34 points, while DeLeon finished with 14 points, junior, Trace Goodman, with 12 points and Timothy Tanaro with 10 points.

Josh Samaron tallied eight points, while Dereck Rosalez chipped in seven points and Alex Alvarez, JJ Jaramillo and Daryl Castillo each finished with two points in the contest.

The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Gabriel Garcia, who finished with 15 points. Jaime Garcia netted 10 points, while Isaac Herrera contributed nine points and Omar Reyes Jr. chipped in four points . Sergio Gonzales added four points and Diego Aguilar fmished the game with two points

The Wolverines had a bye on Tuesday and will close out the regular season on Friday at Cotton Center.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Bulldogs were at Cotton Center on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Friday with a road game against Lazbuddie.
