The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity basketball team fell at home last Saturday to the Levelland Loboettes, 59-38, in non-district play.
With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 1-5 overall, 1-0 in district play.
Emma Kent scored a quick layup off of the outlet pass from Myka Graf to open the game, but sophomore, Madison McNeese, picked up a steal and knocked down a jumper from the top of the key to tie the game, 2-2, with 6:43 to play in the opening quarter.
Kent knocked down a jumper from the top of the key for Levelland and Laci White took a charge on junior, Ashtyn Parker, which led to a three on the other end from Allie Latham, pushing the Loboettes lead to, 7-2.
With 5:34 to play in the quarter, freshman, Kyndal Edgemon, dropped in a lay-up off of the assist from McNeese, but on the other end, Kent buried a three from the left wing to extend the lead to, 10-4. Graf converted a pair of free throws for the Loboettes and followed it up with a three from the left elbow to push their lead out to, 15-4.
Michaela Watkins dropped in a lay-up for Levelland, but on the other end, Edgemon was fouled on an attempt, earning a trip to the free-throw line. She split the free throws, trimming the lead to, 17-5, with 3:00 to play in the first quarter.
Latham drained a three from the left elbow to make the score, 20-5, as the first quarter came to a close.
Parker got the second quarter going with a jumper from the right wing for Littlefield, but Kent answered with a three from the left elbow for Levelland, stretching the lead to, 23-7. Senior, Geyah Garza, drained a pull-up jumper from the left elbow, but on the other end, Latham drew a shooting foul on junior, Brookelyn Gau. She sank both free throws, making the score, 25-9.
McNeese and Kent exchanged three-pointers from the elbow and Graf knocked down a turnaround jumper from the left side, pushing the Levelland lead to, 30-12, with just under five minutes to play in the first half.
Edgemon dropped in a lay-up, but the Loboettes answered with a, 6-0, scoring run, forcing the Lady Cats to take a time out with 3:29 to play in the half, trailing Levelland, 34-14. Out of the break, Levelland dropped in a put-back, but McNeese answered with back-to-back threes to cut the lead to, 38-20.
Colbi Barnett closed out the half with a lay-up for Levelland, making the score, 40-20, heading into the locker room at halftime.
Graf opened the second half with a lay-up for Levelland, but Gau answered with a bucket for the Lady Cats, making the score, 42-22. Latham responded with a lay-up for the Loboettes and on the next play, Graf was fouled on a put-back attempt by Garza; she sank both free throws, pushing the lead out to, 46-22.
Gau and McNeese knocked down back-to-back threes for Littlefield, but Kent knocked down a three of her own for Levelland to make the score, 49-28, as Littlefield took a time out with 2:51 remaining in the third quarter.
Out of the break, junior, Emily Champion was fouled on an attempt; she sank both free throws to trim the lead to, 49-30. The Lady Cats followed it up with a lay-up by Parker, off of the outlet pass from McNeese, and with under one minute to play, Gau was fouled on an attempt sending her to the line for free throws. She sank both shots at the line to cut the lead to, 49-34, as the third quarter came to a close.
Levelland closed out the game on a, 10-4 scoring run through the fourth quarter to take the contest, 59-38.
McNeese led the Lady Cats in scoring with 14 points, while Gau finished with seven points and Garza and Edgemon each tallied five points. Parker chipped in four points, while Champion added two points and Garcia finished with one point.
