The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity football team fell on the road to the Abernathy Antelopes, 34-20, on Friday.
With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 1-4 overall on the season.
Both teams went scoreless through the first quarter, but the Antelopes got the scoring going in the second quarter, as Malachi Reyes rushed for a 12-yard touchdown to put the Antelopes up, 7-0, after the PAT by Jaden Zavala sailed through the uprights.
They would find the endzone once more before halftime, as Anthony White caught a 35-yard pass from Jess Hoel, to make the score, 14-0, after the Zavala PAT, going into the locker room at halftime.
Abernathy would build on their lead in the third quarter, as Hoel broke loose for a 31-yard touchdown run to put the Antelopes up, 20-0, after the missed PAT by Zavala.
Littlefiel would not lay down, as the fourth quarter got underway. Junior tailback, Ty’Jae Chambers broke loose, breaking a few tackles on his way to a 48-yard touchdown run, trimming the lead to, 20- 6, after the missed PAT by senior kicker, Chris Brown.
Abernathy would respond with a 16-yard touchdown run by Reyes, which was followed by the PAT from Zavala, stretching their lead back out to, 27-6.
Senior slotback, Xavier Esquibel, took the hand-off on the sweep into the endzone for an 11-yard touchdown to trim the lead to, 27-12, with 6:15 left to play in the contest.
Abernathy’s offense continued to roll, as Reyes again broke loose for a 53-yard touchdown run to extend the Antelope’s lead to, 34- 12, after the PAT by Zavala.
Littlefield took a time out with 24 seconds left to play in the game, and out of the break, senior quarterback, Blake Green ran it up the middle on a quarterback sneak, making it fourth and goal from the one, as Head Coach Brent Green called another time out with 15 seconds left.
Out of the break, junior, Jordan Trevino, took the hand-off, punching it into the endzone for the oneyard score. Littlefield lined up for the two-point conversion, as Green scrambled and threw up a jump ball in the endzone, that was caught by Brown to make the score, 34-20, as the Wildcats fell to the Antelopes on the road.
