David Lee Roden, 76, passed away Monday, September 7, 2026 in San Angelo, Texas. He was bom August 25, 1950 to Bobbie Lee Roden and Betty Joe Lawson in Friona, Texas.

David’s family moved to Littlefield when he was a young child. He attended Littlefield schools and graduated in 1969. He then went to South Plains College. David loved life and loved to have fun! One of his favorite activities was attending Boy Scout Camp in Tres Ritos, New Mexico. He remained active in scouting for many years. He was also active in Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, and Shriners and received his 50-year pin in each of these organizations. He worked for the U.S. Postal System for over 30 years.

In 1981, David manied Sandy Smith and became an instant dad to her daughter, Stephanie, and what a great dad he was. He took the family on multiple trips to Disney World, to the mountains, on camping trips, and anywhere else he thought would be fun. Later in life he was so proud to be able to take all three of his grandkids to Alaska.

David’s spirit will always live strongly thanks to his wife, Sandy, and daughter Stephanie Hedden; his grandchildren, Brett Hedden and wife, Syndel, and Haylie Hedden, and John Hedden all of San Angelo, Texas; great grandchildren Suki and Osiris Hedden; a sister, Dana Bailey and her husband, Mike, from Levelland, Texas, and a brother, Joe Mark Roden from Houston, Texas. In addition to loving and enjoying his own grandchildren, he was so proud of all the other children on both sides of the family including Carie and Eric Ellison’s children, Croy and Sophia. Laura Bailey and Michael Meluskey’s child Bailey, Bay lie and Michael Cramp’s children, Korley, Karah, Kayla, Kaleb, and Kade, and Jordyn and Blake Brodie’s children, Reese, Luke, Ella, and Annie. All of them knew David as Santa Claus!

A Celebration of Life was held Saturday afternoon, September 19,2026 at First Methodist Church in Littlefield, Texas.

Arrangements were under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home.
