A crash at the intersection of FM 179 and FM 2641 resulted in the death of two people, Sammy Zapata of Lubbock, 19, and Burl Trotter of Littlefield, 87, on July 10, 2026.
According to the Department of Public Safety, Zapata traveled eastbound on FM 2641 and approached the stop sign at the intersection of FM 179. Trotter traveled northbound on FM 179 and approached the intersection with FM 2641.
Zapata continued eastbound through the stop sign and collided with the driver’s side of Trotter’s truck.
Trotter was pronounced dead on the scene, and Zapata was transported to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead as a result of the injuries from the crash.
