Sudan High School One-Act Play students competed at the regional competition at Canyon West Plains High School on April 25, 2026. The team advanced to the state competition in Austin, happening May 11 through 13.
The play “Moon Over Buffalo” won first place in the competition.
Individually, Lilly Garza won All-Star Stage Manager; Sam Briseno was the tournament’s Best Technician; Rebekah Jones and Phillip Jones won Honorable Mention All-Star Cast; and Case Cantu and Brooklyn Swart won All-Star Cast.
Twenty-one students will travel to Austin for the competition: Brooklyn Swart, Phillip Jones, Harper Pratt, Rebekah Jones, Case Cantu, Anneke Van De Pol, Alex Carson, Halen Ruiz, Rylan Dugan, Britton Bass, Lilly Garza, Rylan Willoughby, Krissy Harris, Sam Briseno, Analeeze DeLaRosa, Melanie Gore, Carlito Montes, Maleki Kone, Athan Burnett, Ava Foster and Danika Wallace.
The directors who instructed the students are Chrissy Bass, Chelsea Lewis, Angie Robertson and Jonathan Robertson.
“These students did a magnificent job. About halfway through the play, I thought, ‘wow, if they can keep this up, they’ve got this,’” Jonathan Robertson said. “There was consistent laughter throughout the play.”
Notably, this is Jonathan Robertson’s last time directing a show after 36 years of involvement.
