For outstanding achievement in leadership, service, and activities that serve to improve the school and community, Sudan Student Council has been recognized by the Texas Association of Student Councils (TASC) in the areas of Outstanding Student Council; Drugs, Alcohol, Safety and Health (DASH); Pride and Patriotism; and Energy and Environment as well as for submission of its Community Service Report.
Sudan Student Council has been recognized as a Sweepstakes Council. Sweepstakes councils must be recognized as an Outstanding Student Council and receive outstanding recognition in Drugs, Alcohol, Safety and Health (DASH); Pride and Patriotism; and Energy and Environment as well as submitting a Community Service Report. TASC has over 1100 member schools. Of those, Sudan High School Student Council is one of only 278 student councils statewide to receive this highly-esteemed honor.
“I am incredibly proud of our student council this year,” said sponsor Elizabeth Dugan. “They have worked tirelessly to fill the gaps wherever they were needed and have truly stepped up as leaders on our campus and in our community. From volunteering in food pantries and serving senior citizens to making monetary donations and partnering with other councils and student organizations, their impact has been far-reaching. This honor is well-deserved, as it reflects not only their hard work, but their genuine servant hearts. They have made a meaningful difference, and I am proud of the way they represent Sudan ISD.”
Student Council members develop proven skills in team building, problem solving, project planning, and decision making. Through their co-curricular activities, student council members serve their communities while strengthening their academic and civic skills Council Officer, Gabriel Lopez, expressed his excitement in earning this recognition saying, “I was ecstatic for our council to be awarded this due to the hard work and dedication we put in. It is amazing to be able to see it reciprocated in such a way.”
TASC is a non- profit serving high school and middle-level student councils in Texas. Sponsored by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, its purposes are to develop leadership abilities in students, promote democracy as a way of life, and uphold high standards for local councils. TASC members work daily to make schools a place where students and staff want to be and leave our world better than they found it. It is the USA’s largest state student council organization.
