Wolverines finish 1-2 at the Lamb County Classic

The Springlake- Earth Wolverines’ varsity baseball team went 1-2 at the Lamb County Classic this past weekend, as they defeated Morton, before falling to the West Texas Tornadoes and Dimmitt’s JV.

In their first game on Friday against Morton, the Wolverines took down the Indians, 19-3.

Jacob Alvarez threw three innings on the mound, giving up one walk and three runs, 0 earned, while earning five strike outs.

Springlake-Earth jumped on the Indians early with nine runs in the bottom half of the first inning to take a, 9-1, lead. Morton would add a run in the top of the second, but the Wolverines would answer in the homehalf of the inning, with six more runs to make the score, 15-1.

The Wolverines would score four more runs in the bottom of the third inning to take the contest, 19-3.

The Wolverines totaled 10 hits as a team, led by Froylan Agundiz, who had a triple and a double, one walk and one RBI. Luis Hernandez had a triple, a walk and two RBI’s, while Jacob Alvarez had two hits, including a double, one walk and one RBI.

Robert Flores tallied three hits, including a double, and five RBI’s. Bryan Longoria also had a hit, two walks and an RBI in the contest.

In their second game on Friday against the Tornadoes, the Wolverines fell, 18-3.

Agundiz pitched two innings for the Wolverines, giving up one hit, 10 walks and 11 runs, 10 earned, while earning one strike out. Donovan Stiggers pitched one inning, giving up four hits, three walks and seven runs, six earned, while earning one strike out.

The Tornadoes jumped out in front early with seven runs in the first inning, but the Wolverines answered with a run in the bottom of the second inning to trim the lead to, 7-1. The Tornadoes scratched 11 runs across in the top of the third, to push the score to, 18-1.

Springlake-Earth would answer with two runs in the bottom of the third, before falling to the Tornadoes, 183.

The Wolverines totaled six hits as a team, led by Longoria, who tallied two hits, including a double and one RBI. Hernandez had a hit and an RBI, while Flores finished with a hit and an RBI as well.

Agundiz and Alvarez each had a triple in the contest.

The Wolverines closed out tournament play on Saturday against Dimmitt’s JV, falling to the Bobcats, 11-6.

Longoria pitched one inning, giving up one hit, nine walks and nine runs, six earned, while earning two strike outs. Alvarez pitched four innings, giving up one hit, two walks and two runs, 0 earned, while earning six strikeouts.

Dimmitt got ahead early with three runs in the top of the first, but the Wolverines responded in the home half to make the score, 3-2, going into the second frame. The Bobcats would add six runs in the second inning, while keeping the Wolverines scoreless in the bottom half of the inning to make the score, 9-2.

Springlake-Earth kept the Bobcats quiet in the top of the third, before, pushing four runs across in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to, 9-6. Dimmitt would add a run in each of the last two innings to take the contest, 11-6.

The Wolverines totaled four hits as a team, led by Longoria, who had two hits including a double and one RBI. Agundiz had a triple, while Alvarez recorded a hit and Hernandez tallied an RBI. The Wolverines will be at Hale Center on Friday to take on the Owls.

First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
