Lady Cats run rule Dimmitt, 15-0, in district opener

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity softball team opened district play on Tuesday with a, 15-0, run-rule victory over the Dimmitt Bobbies at Lady Cat Field.

With the win, the Lady Cats improve to 7-9 overall, 1-0 in district play.

Amaya McCanick pitched a no-hitter in three innings for the Lady Cats, giving up three walks, while earning eight strikeouts.

In the top of the first inning, McCanick got Adrian Rosas to strike out looking for out number one and she got Ximena Terrazas to strike out swinging for out number two. Yollet Venzor drew a walk to give the Bobbies a base runner, but McCanick bounced back, as she got Chassidy Navaro to strike out swinging to retire the side.

In the bottom half of the inning, Bryndle Ray was hit by a pitch from Terrazas to give the Lady Cats a base runner. Ray would take second on a wild pitch and stole third on another pitch, before Sophia Mata was walked, as Ray scored on another wild pitch to make the score, 1-0. McCanick popped up to Terrazas in front of the circle, but the ball was stropped, leaving runners on first and second with no outs.

Bri Aleman walked to load the bases for Littlefield, and Maggie McNeese followed it up with an RBIsingle on an error by Venzor at shortstop to make the score, 2- 0. McCanick scored on a passed ball, as McNeese took second and Aleman advanced to third, pushing their lead to, 3-0. Aleman would score on a passed ball, to make the score, 4-0, as McNeese advanced to third on the play, and Hannah Lopez followed it up with an RBIsingle over Venzor at shortstop, stretching their lead to, 5-0.

Abby Rodriguez singled under the glove of Angelina Ramirez at third base, and Isaihla Garza kept the rally going with a two- RBI double to right field that was dropped by Maddie Medina, extending the lead to, 7- 0. Peyton Galvan roped an RBI-triple past Navaro in center field to make the score, 8-0, and Ray knocked an RBI-single through the left side, stretching their lead to, 9-0.

Ray took second on a pitch, before Mata hit a grounder to Venzor at shortstop, but the throw to first was dropped by Rosas, leaving runners on the corners for the Lady Cats. McCanick blasted a two-RBI double to rightcenter field to stretch the lead to, 11-0, and she took third on a passed ball, before Aleman was walked, putting runners on the corners for Littlefield.

McNeese ripped a two-RBI triple to right-center field to make the score, 13-0, and Lopez drew a walk, as McNeese scored on a wild pitch, pushing their lead to, 14-0. Lopez reached base on a walk, but was called out for leaving early for out number one. Rodriguez drew a walk, but was called out for leaving the base early on the next pitch, for out number two, and Garza reached base on an error by Rosas at first base, but was called out for leaving the base early for out number three.

In the top of the second inning, McCanick got Jazmen Lopez to strike out swinging and Serenity Sanchez to strike out looking for two quick outs. Medina drew a walk to give the Bobbies a base runner, but Ramirez struck out looking to retire the side.

Galvan drew a walk to get the Lady Cats going in the bottom half of the second, and she took second on a pitch, before, Ray struck out swinging for out number one. Galvan took third on a passed ball, before Mata popped up to Ramirez at third base for out number two, and McCanick grounded out to Venzor at shortstop to end the inning.

Brissa Salinas gave the Bobbies a lead-off runner in the top of the third, as she drew a walk, but McCanick got Rosas and Terrazas both to strike out looking and she got Venzor to chop out to Aleman at third base to retire the side.

In the bottom of the third, Aleman drew a walk and stole second on a passed ball, before McNeese walked it off with an RBI-double to the right-center field fence, as the Lady Cats secured the district victory, 15-0.

The Lady Cats were at Shallowater on Saturday to take on the Fillies. Results were not available at press time. They will continue district play on Tuesday with a home game against Idalou.

First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
