Winter Storm Fern swept through the South Plains, bringing heavy snowfall and below-freezing temperatures.
Reports from the National Weather Service at 9 a.m. on January 26 totaled the most snowfall in Muleshoe at 7.5 inches, 6.5 inches in Olton and 5.8 inches in Littlefield.
Lubbock received the most snowfall on January 25, with 6.4 inches reported near the Lubbock International Airport at 5:46 p.m.
Temperatures remained cold throughout the region, and Littlefield experienced the coldest day on January 26, with a low of -8 degrees and a high of 20 degrees.
On the same day, Lubbock experienced a low of -2 degrees with a high of 28 degrees. Olton reported a low of 1 degree and a high of 20 degrees, all data per the National Weather Service.
In the following week, temperatures in Littlefield are expected to rise with sunny conditions and a high near 63 degrees on Monday.
Monday night’s forecast is partly cloudy conditions with a low of around 35 degrees.
Tuesday’s conditions are forecasted for a mostly sunny day with a high near 59 degrees.
Tuesday night’s forecast is partly cloudy with a low around 27 and a 20% chance of showers.
