Two 4-H Veteran parents receive Quilts of Valor at Littlefield Area Stockshow

Lamb County 4-H and the Texas 4-H Fashion and Interior Design Ambassadors presented two Quilts of Valor to 4-H veteran parents, Tabitha Senter and JJ Bellar, at the Littlefield Area Livestock Auction on Saturday, January 17.

Founded in 2003 by Cathrine Roberts, the Quilts of Valor Foundation seeks to pay gratitude to veterans for their service by offering a comforting quilt. According to the Quilts of Valor website, the number of awarded quilts totals over 436,429.

The 4-H Fashion and Interior Design Ambassadors initiated the Quilts of Valor project with the help of adult volunteers Klarissa Degrate, Trine Jobe and Toni Meredith, and 4- H youth members Kimber Albus, Loren Campbell, Briella Degrate, Valaree Harper, Jeri Holcomb, Imri Jobe, Claire Lostroh, Evelyn Meredith and Stetson Sedberry. Additionally, the project received grants from JoAnn Fabrics, Walmart and the Texas 4-H Foundation.

Claire Lostroh presented each veteran with their Quilt of Valor, beginning with Tabitha Senter.

Tabitha Senter served in the United States Air Force from 2010 to 2013 as a weather forecaster and flight weather briefer. While serving as the briefing manager, she said her favorite part of the job was bossing around the men who outranked her.

Married to Kenton Senter, Tabitha Senter lives with her family in Earth. Their kids, Claire, Chloe, Carly and Colton Senter are involved or interested in 4-H. Claire and Chloe showed Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Goats at the Littlefield Area Livestock. Carly is a Clover Kid in 4-H, while Colton awaits the day he’s old enough to participate.

The second Quilt of Valor was presented to JJ Bellar. JJ Bellar started his service in the United States Air Force on October 12, 1992. Since then, he attained the rank of Senior Airman E-4 and deployed to missions in Cuba, Ecuador, Saudi Arabia and Oman.

As a decorated service member, JJ Bellar earned commendations, including the Army Achievement Medal, the Air Force Achievement Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.

Living in Littlefield alongside his wife, Jennifer Bellar, the couple has three children: Hayden, Branson and Maceyn. All three children are involved in 4-H in various capacities, including Food and Nutrition, Fashion and Interior Design and Livestock Showing. JJ is a part of the Lamb County 4-H Adult Leaders.

The presentation concluded with each respective family embracing their veteran parent with the Quilt of Valor.
