The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity basketball team fell on the road to the Shallowater Fillies on Friday, 59-42.
The Lady Cats are 16-10, 5-4 in district play.
Linley Wright saved a ball under the basket to Keelie Williams, who buried a three from the left elbow to open the contest for Shallowater, and she followed it up with a lay-up, off of a Littlefield turnover, making the score, 5-0.
Emma Kate Foster took a charge on Zalise Davis, however, the Lady Cats would regain possession, as Davis fed the ball into Nia Cleveland in the post, who drew a shooting foul on Keelie Williams. Cleveland sank both shots at the line to trim the lead to, 5-2, with just under five minutes to play in the opening quarter.
Kamryn Ledbetter drew a shooting foul on Jefferson, earning a trip to the line. She split the attempts, and Davis answered with backto- back drives through the middle for lay-ups, tying the game, 6- 6. Shallowater came right back down the floor with back- to- back buckets, but with 1:41 to play in the quarter, Cleveland was fouled on an attempt by Emma Clawson, earning a trip to the line. She converted both shots at the line to make it a onepossession game, 10-8.
Faith Bass bounced a pass to a cutting Aniston VanAtta for a lay- up, but Cobi Saldana answered with a three from the top of the key, cutting their lead to, 12-11. Clawson dropped in a layup for Shallowater, but on the other end, Davis was fouled on a second-chance try by Foster. She converted both shots to make it a onepoint game, 14-13.
With time winding down in the quarter, Davis heaved the outlet pass down court to Cleveland, who was fouled on an attempt by Foster. She made one-of-two shots at the line to tie the game, 14-14, to close out the first quarter.
Carli Buckley was fouled on an attempt by Cleveland to open the second frame. She made one-of-two shots from the line and a few possessions later, Wright was fouled on an attempt by Madison Williams, earning a trip to the line. She converted both shots at the line, making the score, 17-14.
Saldana answered with a three from the top of the key, off of an assist from Madison Williams, as Littlefield took a time out with 4:28 to play in the first half. Out of the break, Ledbetter scored a lay-up in transition and Bass followed it up with a lay-up off of a turnover, making the score, 21-17, with 3:38 to play in the half.
Shallowater went on a, 70, scoring run, before Davis was fouled on an attempt by Clawson, earning a trip to the line. She made one-oftwo shots from the line, as Shallowater took a time out with 31.1 seconds to play in the half. Out of the break, Ledbetter dropped in a putback off of a miss by Wright to close out the half, with Shallowater in front, 30-18.
Wright was fouled on an attempt by Madison Williams to open the second half. She sank both shots at the line, but on the other end, Davis drew a shooting foul on Foster. She made oneof- two shots at the line, trimming the lead to 32-19, with 6:49 to play in third quarter. Buckley took a charge on Saldana, and Shallowater followed it up with a lay- up from Ledbetter, off of the assist from Wright, pushing the lead back out to, 34-19.
Keelie Williams dropped in a lay-up off of the assist from Buckley, drawing an and-one foul on Aubree Richardson. She converted the free throw, pushing their lead out to, 37-19. With just over four minutes remaining in the quarter, Wright picked up a steal from Madison Williams and took it to the hoop for a fastbreak lay-up, but Amoni Jefferson answered with a jumper to trim the lead to, 39-21.
Wright knocked down a jumper from the right elbow for the Fillies, but on the other end, Davis was fouled on an attempt by Ledbetter. She sank both shots at the line, trimming the lead to, 4123, with 2:54 left to play in the quarter. Wright was fouled on an attempt by Abbie Rodriguez. She made the first and missed the second, but Ledbetter was there for the put-back to extend their lead to, 44-23.
With 2:20 remaining in the third, Jefferson knocked down a jumper from the top of the key, off of the assist from Saldana, and on their next possession, Sladana was fouled on the floor by VanAtta, earning a trip to the line. She split the shots at the line, making the score, 44-26.
VanAtta and Jefferson each knocked down a jumper from the elbow to close out the third quarter with Shallowater in front, 46-28.
Jefferson opened the fourth quarter with a jumper in the lane, off of an assist from Madison Williams and Davis followed it up with a bounce pass to Madison Williams for a lay-up, cutting the lead to, 46-32. With 5:40 remaining, Saldana used a euro-step to get to the basket for a lay- up, drawing an and-one foul on Foster. The free throw was no good, leaving the score, 46-34.
With under five minutes to play, Keelie Williams drove the lane, dumping the ball off to Clawson for a lay-up, but on the other end, Saldana hit a cutting Jefferson for a layup on the inbound play, drawing an and one foul on Keelie Williams. She converted the free throw to make the score, 48-37.
With 3:29 to play, Keelie Williams took a charge on Saldana, but Littlefield would regain possession, as Davis drew a shooting foul on Keelie Williams. She made one-of-two shots at the line to make it a 10-point game, 48-38. But, Wright would lob a pass over the defense to Buckley for a lay-up, as Littlefield took a time out with 2:21 to play, trailing the Fillies, 50-38.
Shallowater would close out the game on a, 9-4, scoring run as Littlefield fell on the road, 59-42.
Davis led the Lady Cats in scoring with 14 points, while Jefferson joined her in double-figures scoring with 11 points. Saldana chipped in nine points, while Cleveland added six points and Williams chipped in two points.
