On January 1, 2026, at 5:12 p.m. a one vehicle wreck on SH 194, approximately .5 miles east of CR J, left one person dead.
A Preliminary investigation from the Texas Department of Public Safety revealed that a 2012 Ford F150 pick-up towing a trailer was traveling westbound on SH 194.
For unknown reasons, the Ford F-150 left the roadway and entered the north barrow ditch, where the driver over-corrected, causing the Ford F-150 to travel back across the roadway.
The Ford F-150 was in a side skid and crossed the eastbound lanes, entering the south barrow ditch. The Ford F-150 and trailer then entered a field, where they rolled over, ejecting the driver. The driver, Pedro Rocha Carpio, 63, of Bovina, was later pronounced deceased at Covenant Hospital in Plainview due to the injuries sustained during the crash. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
