The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity basketball team won the Wildcat Classic Championship game last Wednesday, taking down the Farwell lady Blue, 57-27.
With the win, the Lady Cats went undefeated in the tournament, 3-0.
Cali Dannelley buried a three from the right elbow to open the contest for the Lady Blue, but on the other end, Zalise Davis dropped in a floater from the left side, and Madison Williams followed it up with a reverse lay-up to put the Lady Cats in front, 4-3, as Farwell took a time out with 5:23 to play in the opening quarter.
Out of the break, Amoni Jefferson dropped in a layup, off of the inbound pass from Cobi Saldana, but Ava Jaime answered on the other end with a short jumper from the elft side, off of the assist from Cali Dannelley, putting Farwell back in front, 7-6, with 3:33 to play in the first quarter.
Davis dropped in a floater in the lane to regain the lead, 8-7, but with 1:45 to play in the quarter, Cati Dannelley took a charge on Saldana, as Littlefield took a one-point lead into quarter number two.
Kylie McFarland opened the second frame with a fast-break lay-up, but Williams answered with a three from the top of the key, off of an assist from Nia Cleveland, as the Lady Cats regained the lead, 119, with 6:55 to play in the first half. Williams hit Davis for a floater in the lane to extend the lead to, 13-9, and on their next possession, Williams was fouled on a fast-break attempt by Cali Dannelley, earning a trip to the line.
She converted one-of-two shots from the line, making the score, 14-9. With 5:22 to play in the half, Jaime knocked down a jumper from the left elbow, but Jefferson answered with a jumper in the lane, off of an assist from Williams, making the score, 16-11. Farwell took a time out with 4:30 to play in the half, and out of the break, Jefferson dropped in a lay-up, off of an assist from Celveland, pushing their lead to, 18-11.
Jefferson kept it going, as she hit Saldana in transition for a lay-up, and on their next possession, Saldana was fouled in transition by Jaime, her second of the game. Saldana made oneof- two shots at the line to make the score, 21-11.
With just over two minutes remaining in the half, Jefferson drove the middle for a lay- up, but Cali Dannelley answered with a jumper from the right side, trimming the lead to, 23-13. With 1:36 to play in the half, Jaime passed the ball to Cali Dannelley, who was fouled on an attempt by Davis, her second of the game.
Cali Dannelley converted both shots at the line, but Cleveland responded with a put-back off of a miss by Williams and Williams followed it up with a pass to Jefferson in transition for a lay-up, making the score, 27-15. McFarland dropped in a put-back for Farwell, and with no time remaining in the half, Cali Dannelley was fouled on a half-court shot by Saldana. She made one-of-three shots at the line, as the Lady Cats took a, 27-18, lead into the locker room at halftime.
Davis opened the second half with a steal, taking it to the hoop for the fast-break lay-up, but Cali Dannelley answered with a jumper from the left wing, making the score, 29-20. On their next possession, Cali Dannelley was fouled on an attempt by Jefferson, her second. She made one-oftwo shots at the line, but on the other end, Jefferson drew a shooting foul on Jaime, her third of the game.
Jefferson missed both free throws, but she was able to gather the offensive rebound and drop it in for a put-back, pushing the lead back out to double-digits, 31-21. Farwell took a time out with 4:42 to play in the game, and out of the break, Jefferson dropped in a floater in the lane to push their lead to, 33-21.
With 1:31 to play in the third, Jaime knocked down a jumper from the right elbow, but Jefferson closed out the quarter with a floater in the lane to stretch their lead to, 35-23, going into the final quarter of play.
Jaime opened the fourth quarter with a runner from the right elbow for Farawell, but Davis responded, driving the right side for a layup, making the score, 37-25. Williams dropped in a putback off of a miss by Saldana and she followed it up with a three from the right elbow, extending their lead to, 42-25, with just over six minutes remaining.
With 3: 40 to play, Jefferson was fouled on an attempt by Cati Dannelley, her second. She made oneof- two shots from the line and on the next play, Jefferson was fouled again, this time by Cali Dannelley, her second of the game. Jefferson made one-of-two shots from the line, pushing their lead to, 44-25.
McFarland picked up a steal and scored on a fastbreak, but Williams answered with a three from the right elbow, off of an assist from Davis and Jefferson followed it up with a lay-up, pushing their lead to, 49-27. Jefferson split a pair of free throws, after Jaime picked up her fourth foul for Farwell, and on the next play, Jefferson picked up a steal, dishing it ahead to Davis for a fast-break lay-up, stretching the lead to, 52-27.
Davis gathered an offensive rebound and dropped in a floater from the left side with time winding down and she followed it up with a deep three at the buzzer, as Littlefield took down Farwell, 57-27, to claim the Wildcat Classic Championship.
The Lady Cats were led by Jefferson, who tallied 21 points, as one of three Lady Cats in double-figures scoring. She was joined by Davis, who netted 17 points and Williams, who chipped in 14 points. Cleveland contributed two points in the contest.
