Lamb County wreck leaves one dead, two injured

On Wednesday, November 19th at 1:49 p.m., a two vehicle crash on US Highway 84, east of Amherst, resulted in one death and two people injured.

A preliminary investigation from the Texas Department of Public Safety revealed that a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado and a 2017 Peterbilt Truck- Tractor, towing trailer were traveling westbound on US 84 near Amherst.

The Silverado was passing the Peterbilt Truck-Trailer to the left, in the left lane of travel, traveling westbound. While passing, the Silverado traveled towards the right and struck the left side of the Peterbilt Truck-Trailer.

The driver of the Silverado, Lori Moyer, 53, of Fort Sumner, N. M., steered towards the left, overcorrected, traveled into a side skid, and rolled to the north side of US Highway 84. She was pronounced deceased on scene. The passengers of the Silverado, Art Moyer, 75, of Fort Sumner, N.M. and Janis Moyer, 76, of For Sumner, N.M., were transported to UMC with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Peterbilt Truck- Trailer, Derrick Benson, 37, of Sutherlin, Oregon, did not sustain any injuries.
