In Loving Memory Of
Nov. 13, 1937 ~ Nov. 18, 2025
Nelson Paul Carlisle, 88, of Littlefield, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on November 18, 2025. Nelson was born on November 13, 1937, in Paducah, Texas, to Paul and Vera Carlisle.
He grew up in Littlefield and was a graduate of Littlefield High School. On March 6, 1959, he married the love of his life, Nancy Turner, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in faith, family, and service.
Nelson worked at a body shop in both Littlefield and Arizona. He also served in the Army Active Reserves. After returning to Fieldton and later Maple, he began farming which he dedicated himself to for 37 years. Upon retiring, Nelson and Nancy moved back to Littlefield, where he continued to stay active by driving a truck and serving his community in many ways.
A man of many interests, Nelson loved fishing, hunting, motorcycles, and spending time outdoors. He enjoyed tinkering with cars and was known as a dependable and skilled handyman. He was deeply involved in his church and community, serving on the Three Way School Board for 13 years, the Bailey County Electric Board for 21 years, the Texas Electric Board, the Lions Club, and the Bailey County Appraisal District. Of all his activities, one of his greatest joys was attending the events and activities of his children and grandchildren.
Nelson's spiritual life was central to who he was. Although he served in many public capacities, his most meaningful acts of service were within the churches he attended throughout his life. He was affectionately known as "Pop," a name that reflected the warmth, steadiness, and love he shared with everyone around him. His journey on earth was marked by love, compassion, and an unwavering faith in God.
Nelson is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy; his three daughters and their husbands, Jackie and Kendon Zahn, Julie and Keith Layton, and Lori and Doug Stutler; eight grandchildren, Kagney and Matt Paden, Brandon and Silvia Zahn, Lance and Carli Layton, Allison and Kelsey Maxwell, Brandon and Alyssa Wianecki, Logan and Ashten Stutler, Luke and Aubrey Stutler, and Mitch Stutler; great-grandchildren, Zaylee, Layne, Parker, Brooklyn, Bowen, Gentry, Layton, Jack, Beck, Emersyn, Grayson, and Brooks, with another blessing expected in 2026; and his sister, Ginger Bradshaw. Nelson also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will dearly miss him.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Curtis and Bobby Carlisle.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, November 24, at Crescent Park Church of Christ in Littlefield, Texas, with visitation to follow in the fellowship hall.
