The Lamb County Leader-News’ annual football contest’s wrapped up week eight last week, which turned out to be a high- scoring affair that didn’t leave any margin for error.
This week, Mark Grace took the top spot going 191.
We had eight contestants tie for the second place with a mark of 18-2: Brenda Herrell, Dewayne Hayes, Johnny Rosemond, Jr Herrell, Ronnie Martin, Stephanie Dabrowski, Stevy Smith and Teresa Dabrowski.
The tie-breaker for week seven was the combined score of the Colts and Chargers, which was 62 points.
Martin took second place by way of tie-breaker, with a guess of 48 points and Stephanie Dabrowski and JR Herrell tied for third place with a guess of 47 points, edging out Brenda Herrell and Hayes, who guessed 46 points and Rosemond and Teresa Dabrowski, who guessed 45 points and Stevy Smith, who guessed 39 points.
In the high school ranks, Littlefield won this year’s War on 84 battle with Muleshoe, 50-26, while Sudan took down Lockney, 56-6, and Post took down Olton, 48-15. Whitharral won their district match-up over Amherst, 68-33, and Anton took care of Lazbuddie, 77-32.
Caprock took care of Coronado, 36-26, while Tascota handled Monterey, 35-21, and Midland took down Odessa, 45-21. Permian defeated San Angelo Central, 35-27.
In the college ranks, Northwestern shutout Purdue, 19-0, while Pittsburgh took care of Syracuse, 30-13, and Georgia upset Ole Miss, 43-35. Arizona State upset unbeaten Texas Tech, 26-22, while Notre Dame defeated rival USC, 34-24.
In the NFL this week, the Bears took down the Saints, 26-14, while the Cowboys blasted the Commanders, 44-22, and the Broncos won a shootout over the Giants, 33-32. The Chiefs shutout the Raiders, 31-0, while the Panthers took down the Jets, 13-5.
The rest of the contestant scores for week one are as follows: Those who finished 17-3 this week were Steve Raney, Alma Castillo, Charlie Smith, Ed Dabrowski, Jan Smith, Jonathan Magallanes, Lonnie Neinast and Danny Sanders. Finishing 16-4 this week were JC Orozco, Juan Garza, Maria Pinon, Martin Duran, Micky Orozco, Richard Orozco and Tim Walker.
15-5 finishers this week include Larry Ashley, Sam Castillo and Terrill Moorhead, while those who went 13- 7 were Jimmy Garcia and John Hernandez. Robin Elliott finished 12-8 this week, while Stetson Sedberry went 11-9 and Moe Castillo rounded out the field going 7-13.
In the overall standings, Martin remains atop the list in first place with 124 points, while JR Herrell, Stevy Smith and Duran are tied for second with 119 points. Hayes is in third place with 118 points, while Brenda Herrell and Lonnie Neinast are tied for fourth with 117 points and Raney and JC Orozco are tied for fifth with 116 points.
Jan Smith is in sixth place with 115 points, while Magallanes is in seventh place with 114 points and Rosemond and Richard Orozco are tied for eighth with 113 points. Micky Orozco is in ninth with 110 points, while Stephanie Dabrowski, Teresa Dabrowski and Garza round out the top 10 with 109 points.
