In Loving Memory Of Larry Edwards

Larry Edwards, 72, lifelong resident of Amherst, Texas, passed away Monday, September 29, 2025. He was born October 4, 1952, in Amherst to Dale and Mary Evelyn (Witcher) Edwards.

Larry was a proud Bulldog Alumni, graduating from Amherst ISD with the Class of 1971. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Gililland on January 12, 1974. She passed away June 14, 1982. Larry later married Shannon Hatley on August 28, 1987, at Amherst Methodist Church. Larry was a hardworking steward of the land, he loved farming and ranching. Farming his land in and around Lamb County and tending to his cattle brought him a lot of joy, but the pride of his life was his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved being a "Big Dad" to his grandchildren and never missed one of their activities. When he wasn't working, he loved spending time with family and friends, especially hosting get-togethers at the barn. Larry had a lot of titles in his life because he was a "career board member", involved in numerous boards around Amherst and in the Lamb County area. He served 25 years on the Amherst ISD School Board, 17 years on the NRCS Board, numerous years on the Amherst Farmers Co-op Gin Board, and he generously gave his time for over 45 years of service to the Amherst Fire Department. He was also awarded "Amherst Citizen of the Year" in 2019 for all of his dedication to the Amherst community. He was an active member of the Amherst Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Shannon Edwards; sons, Jeff Edwards and wife, Jennifer and Judd Perkins and wife, Brande all of Amherst; seven grandchildren, Kaegan Bowen and husband, Kooper of Wolfforth, McKenna Booth of Amherst, Kyndal Edwards of Lubbock, Kooper Edwards of Amherst, Kynleigh Green, Bree Perkins and Berkley Perkins all of Amherst; a great granddaughter, Blair Bowen of Wolfforth; three sisters, Sheila Tucker and husband, Neil of Idalou, Jackie Hardin and husband, Ronald of Sudan and Linda West and husband, Brad of Mt. Vernon, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; three children; and his first wife, Shirley Edwards.

Memorial Services to celebrate the life Larry lived was held Thursday morning, October 2, 2025 at Amherst Methodist Church with Ted Wilson, Phil McClendon and Cam Givens officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Kooper Edwards, Kooper Bowen, Troy Tolbert, Bob Mills, RD Gass, Ricky Yantis, Antonio Cardenas, Ramon Cardenas, Ivan Cardenas and Randy Miller. Cremation arrangements were under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield, Texas.
